Say 'No to Rumsfeld' ...

Tens of thousands have already signed petitions demanding that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld resign. We've been joined by retired generals, by newspapers across the country, and even by conservative voices such as the Economist magazine. Now, finally, leaders in Congress are taking up the charge, with a resolution challenging Rumsfeld coming up in the Senate.

Now's the time to push them forward -- Tell the Senate to Dump Rumsfeld now..

Why should Congress vote they have "no confidence" in Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld? Here's a short list:

-- Torture at Abu Ghraib prison and Guantanamo Bay was tacitly approved by Rumsfeld, who rejected compliance with the Geneva Convention and urged harsher interrogation methods.

-- He sent American soldiers into battle without proper armor, without sufficient reinforcements, and with no realistic plan:

"I can't say if the use of force would last five days or five weeks or five months, but it certainly isn't going to last any longer than that."

-- Donald Rumsfeld, Nov. 2002

-- He lied about weapons of mass destruction, in order to justify an unprovoked invasion.

"We know where they [iraq's WMD] are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south, and north somewhat."

-- March 30, 2003

-- And even before all of that, he mismanaged billions of tax dollars so thoroughly that auditors can't even tell where it went.

well i know that through this project my state rep (holt) has responded to the letters that we've sent about previous issues and has made out voices heard. that's all i'm asking for, besides intelligent conversation regarding this subject (which i am not holding high hopes for).

Not without calling into doubt other figures in the administration. It's in their interest to protect each other's backsides. Not to mention that calling into question the effectiveness of one of the key architects of the Iraq war would further compromise the policy.

I back-up Rumsfeld! Most of us in the Military know his job is not easy. It is very easy for people that know nothing about the military to critic the job done.

And we are supposed to win a war without killing people. This is impossible just go back and study history.

i still think it should be pushed to be done by those that represent the people (read: us) ... a vote of no confidence is merely a motion of symbolic effect only.

According to the article - there's a fair number of military personnel who are supporting the calls for him to go.

A fair amount does not mean a lot or most. Of course there are always people on both sides of the fence. But most military people I know and I know a lot, back-up Mr. Rumsfeld.
