Since Hawaii is a US state (the 50th that was admitted to the Union to be exact); you and your wife can go there without needing to think about travel restrictions.

We want to go to Hawaii on our honeymoon. I was thinking to wait until we get his SSN and then Driver's License so he can travel with the Driver's License vs. his passport. Basically I want to apply for the SSN immediately after he gets here and after he has the SSN immediately apply for a license and be sure to have it before we go. Any input from people who know would be helpful. I was going to ask this later on down the line.

Why not go on your honeymoon while waiting for the SSN? The only benefit of having a drivers license before you go is that your SO can be an added driver on your rental car (if you choose to get one). Other than that, the person reviewing your ID at the airport could care less about it being a drivers license or foreign passport - as long as whatever you use is valid.

Flying from the mainland to Hawaii is the same as anywhere else on the mainland - with the exception of filling out agricultural forms to declare anything you're bringing into or out of Hawaii. Be up front and you won't have a problem.

Thank you so much M+P I just didn't know what the protocol was about travelling to Hawaii with his passport once he came in on the fiance visa. Basically my understanding is that when he comes in on the fiance visa they give him an 1-94 inside the passport and the fiance visa sorta becomes obsolete. So can he just board an airplane here in LA to Hawaii and back as long as we have no foreign stops with no questions asked? Is there anything else we need with us (Marriage Certificate etc.)? I just wanna be more safe than sorry and considering we can't travel out of the country Hawaii seems like the next viable honeymoon option (I hear Maui is recommended)I have never been.

Thanks

No problem! A marriage certificate isn't necessary - just bring ID you'd use for any other flight. As long as you don't have any international stops, it's entirely domestic and treated the same as flying LAX-NYC, for example. The only difference, like I said, is filling out agricultural forms - state officials are very strict about bringing fruit/veggies/animals/etc into or out of the islands.

Maui is nice, but the Big Island is best... although I may be biased because it's where I live. Don't worry though - you can't go wrong wherever you go :) have fun!

Having lived on both islands, and having returned as a visitor twice with my wife (once to each island), I can say I agree wholeheartedly. Maui in tourist season is frustrating unless you enjoy sitting in traffic. Of course, I also may be biased since the Big Island was our honeymoon and Maui was with the kids. :)

Not much is reasonably priced out here :P but you can find deals depending on time of year, location, etc.

The summer is pretty sleepy on Maui and the Big Island. Kihei and Lahaina on Maui are the main tourist areas - Kona and the Kohala Coast on the Big Island. You should definitely get a rental car wherever you go - there are tons of places to explore that will require your own transportation.

PM me later if you decide on the Big Island - I'll give you a few pointers on what to see.

We are planning to do the same.. so if you already had your trip please tell me how did it go :) Any problems?

We are planning on going to Big Island since it seems to have everything we are looking for.. awesome nature, black sand beaches, snorkeling and not so much tourists. I hope I get to see some turtles and maybe whales too!!
