My fiancee and I have a K1 filed and are waiting for a hopeful approval. It would be nice if she could come on a tourist visa for a few weeks just to get a feel for the States. However, I'm not sure if its even worth trying for because #1, we're already working towards a K1 Visa, #2 she is unemployed and #3 lives with her parents, so I'm pretty doubtful she could convince anyone that she would return home. I would love to have her visit, but honestly should we even try?

If she can not meet the strongest ties criteria she will not get the visa. The answer is no especially because you have a pending petition. Even if she got the tourist visa she might be turned away at the POE when they realise she has a pending case.

Unemployed young single woman from the former Eastern Block has little chance for a tourist visa. On the other hand, having the K1 in progress shows you want to do things the legal way. The fee to apply for a tourist visa is about $100- I say if you can spare it easily, give it a try, but her chances are small.

That's pretty much what I figured. We're not even trying to get around the K1 by getting married quicker or anything like that, although I know many others do that.

The problem is that all people with visas are considered intending immigrants. This means even if you have a K 1 in process if she came on a tourist visa she could stay. It then gets to be a matter of intent. With a K 1 in process it would be hard to prove she didnt intend to just marry & stay.

Penguin is right. The only way to really ever know is to spend the money & step up to the window. Remember that she could be turned away at the POE.

Married quickly does not do anything ....... :) K1 is the process for your fiancee to come to US and get married here.

There is nothing in the system that stops you from going there getting married there and file for CR1.... but that does not bring you to first position in line my friend.

You and your spouse still have to go thru CR1 process just as K1.

we filed for a k1 visa in Nov 2010....and then for a b2 visa in march 2011...they scheduled our b2 interview for this friday april 29...then last week got notice our 129f was approved :D

since we already paid for the b2, we are still going through with the interview and will see what the outcome is....my fiance is umeployed, and lives at home with her parents as well.

we have nothing to lose...so we are gonna go for it...either way, it will be good experience for her when the k1 interview comes up....

i will keep you informed it is approved or not.....good luck to you all
