We have sent our completed AOS packet on March 19 (a month ago) and other than being able to confirm through post office tracking number, that it has been delivered to Chicago lockbox, we have had no confrimation that our application has even been looked at - no NOA1, no email/text confirmation and the check has not been cashed. When I called the USCIS they were unwilling to do anything other than check the system and confirm that they have no record of it and said to call back in few weeks. Interestingly, when I gave them my A# (printed on the visa) it came back with someone else's details. I was told they assign a new A# for AOS. Is this correct?

Has anybody ever been in similar situation and how it unfolded? I would much rather start putting together a new packet rather than waiting and calling every couple of weeks only to be told to call again in few weeks.

That is strange. Your A# is your A#. They do not change it for AOS. Check your K-1 NOA2 and see if your A# matches the one on your visa. If there is some kind of mix up with the number matching to someone else, you might need to make an Infopass appt. to try and get it sorted out.

I know how hard it is to wait for confirmation (NOA) that they received your packet. Our packet arrived March 11 and we did not get our NOA until April 14. A little over a month.

Why don't you follow us in the March AOS 2011 thread:

Also, your packet is not lost, it can either be sitting in the mail room in a basket or in processing department basket waiting for an employee to pick it up and open the packet.

It will not be in the system until they open the packet and enter all the information in regards to the applications you submitted.
