For those petitioning SO in Dominican Republic please. Damn DR and their 100 last names ughh.

Ok so here is what I am thinking might be a problem: On the orignal I 129F petition under family name for my fiance I wrote his last name his fathers last name also known as the first last name. What I am fretting is that since on his birth certificate, cedula, drivers license and divorce decree his name is printed as first name, last name, and mothers maiden last name. But when he signs he signs only using first and last so I am confused.

Will this be a problem at the interview especially when he gets his passport and visa stuff? What should I do, call up USCIS for a name correction on my NOA1? or is it too late for that? I am really upset right now especially because my NOA2 is right around the corner.

Thanks for any info given!

I am not from DR but I have Latin names and I know of what youre talking about. In RD as other parts of Latin America we use both names, first of the father and second of the mother.

Ok so here is what I am thinking might be a problem: On the orignal I 129F petition under family name for my fiance I wrote his last name his fathers last name also known as the first last name. I really don't believe thats a problem if you wrote in Family name his last name (father's). Also, the signature is something personal and unique that doesn't need to have both (last name and mother's maiden name) only if is required. Some are illegible, unreadable and some people even write symbols that don't look like letters. I always sign like your fiancee, and never had problems with that. Although in the I-129F application I specified that we had Latin names but in the forms we're gonna use just one, the last name(father's). His signature in letter of intent, G-325A and his cedula and other documents are very different?

Will this be a problem at the interview especially when he gets his passport and visa stuff? What should I do, call up USCIS for a name correction on my NOA1? or is it too late for that? I am really upset right now especially because my NOA2 is right around the corner.

I hope you get your NOA2 very soon! :star:

It may be a problem. If so, they may give you a RFE. In a way in may be good because you can correct your mistake. If not, bring as much evidence (cedula, long version of birth certificate, etc) to the interview so they will know its the correct person. Be prepared to explain to them your mistake and that you want to fix and have the correct last name(s) on his visa.

Since you've already received NOA2, then you can just keep on calling the visa specialist to find out your interview date and make sure you bring all documents to the interview. They will see the actual proof (cedula, passport, bc, of your fiance's name).

His signature is the same on every document he has and every form we filed, his first name and fathers last name. What is different is the name i printed on the I129F application and on the G325A application in the ense that i dint add his mothers maiden name.

@MrTee so should I call up USCIS and inform them that need to make a correction? or an update to my case? So that its sorted out by interview time. I mean we have all the documents with his full name from his license, cedula, high school diploma , birth certificate etc.

@Aztec&Taino no NOA2 yet almost 6 months

You should call to inform you of the situation.

I can't tell you about the name discrepancy on the forms, but I can tell you that my husband signed the same way yours did (first name, father's last name), which did NOT match his name on the form (we filled out the forms with both last names), and we didn't have any problems with it.

Good luck!!!

Nop I really do not think you will have a problem as his father's last name IS his family name. So if you put First Name and Father's Last Name you should be in the clear!

I did the same thing u did. His name fathers last name. The person that helped me with the forms said that it wont be a problem, consulate is aware of this standard of names :thumbs:

whew!!! lol I was going crazy when I actually realized that and was thinking I might get a RFE. :blink: Because i also followed the advice of this american/dominican lawyer who looked over my already filled application and had told me that it wasn't a problem. So yayyyy!!! I hope we get our interview dates soon!!
