Hi everyone,

I just received an email to say my I-485 has been approved without interview. Which is great. I just checked my receipt number for my I-765 on the USCIS website and it says my receipt number is not recognised. I got a NOA1 for this at the same time I received my NOA1 for the I-485. Does this mean they have lost it?

Thanks for your help!

Does not matter, your GC is approved so you do not need and cannot use the EAD it is of no use.

Oh really? I thought I needed both? Does it say on the GC that I am eligible to work? My SS card says 'Valid for work only with DHS authorization'.

I wasn't aware that the I-485 usurped the I-765 for ability to work.

Thanks!

The green card is what you need, it is your permanent resident card. You travel with it and you work with it. You can go to the SSN office and have the words removed from your SSC with your GC.

EAD is only there to let you be able to work before you have the green card. Its really ment for when people have a very long wait between applying and getting the green card.

Well thanks!

I just reread the instructions for I-765 and it is as you say. I guess I am a 'conditional resident' now and can work once I get my documents!

I need to change my name on my SSN card which they said they wouldn't do without my GC so I can ask them about the words on the card too.

Thanks so much for responding!

So let's see if I got this right.

I submitted an I-485 (AOS, Case A) and with it I sent off an I-765 application (EAD, case B). About two weeks later I receive 2 letters/receipts, 1 for the GC I have checked online and on USCIS' phone systems and have only found information about the receipt on case A. I later received an ASC Appointment letter for my biometrics which were taken yesterday (4/18). The header on this letter indicated both case A and case B's receipt numbers. The next day I called in and when I entered case A's receipt number the system said it had been transferred to CSC. When I entered case B's number the system says it has no information regarding that case (not found).

I am assuming from what you are saying, and I hope rightfully, that the biometrics I took yesterday are for case A (GC) and hence the EAD will be unnecessary. Is this right or should I be worried that the EAD case is not showing up on the site or phone systems?

Why is this so unclear?!!?!

You really don't need an EAD unless you want to work before you get the green card. Thats when the EAD is important. If you can wait for the green card then the EAD is not important because it is void/null when you are approved for your green card and have it.

Not 100% true... In most cases it arrives faster than the GC and in a lot of states can be used to obtain a state ID or driver's license before it would otherwise be possible with the GC.. Also, it can be used to obtain the Social Security Card if you were unable to do so during the first 90 days or to make a name change even if you were.

Precisely my point. I am not sure they are working both cases, it's very unclear and right now I am really more interested about being able to work soon. If they are listing both cases on these documents (notifications), does it mean the biometrics I took yesterday are for both EAD and GC? I just called and case B is still not found in their systems. Anybody else have this issue?

I'd like to see a response from somebody who has received their EAD or GC.

You could also always start your own thread with your own question.

This is exactly the same situation as me.

I called USCIS today after I received my letter saying my GC will arrive in the next 3 weeks. The first officer I spoke to said she couldn't see my case either (the I-765), she then transfered me to another officer who said he could see BOTH of my cases and not to rely on the online status updates as they constantly have issues with them. He said that the EAD can take up to 90 days to process and to call back after 90 days had passed.

Here's the number I called (National Customer Service Center): 1.800.375.5283.

My I-485 was approved 5 weeks after they received it, I hope yours is as speedy and that you can work soon!

Take care,

Helen

Just called. Got transfered to a second customer service rep as first one could not access my EAD case. Second CSR locates my file on her "special" system and tells me it's still under initial review and to allow 90 days from filing date to process the application. She also told me that these secondary cases sometimes do not appear on online or phone systems. The AOS file is under initial review as well.

No luck here...just more waiting :(

Well that's exactly the same as they told me.

My AOS was approved less than 2 weeks after it was transfered to CSC...I hope the same for you!!

Goodluck
