I am filling out my DS-230, we are DCF in China. I am here on an expat assignment that ends early next year. What will likely happen is my wife will 'immigrate' on my scheduled home leave (~1-2 weeks) but then we will return to China to finish my assignment. My understanding is as long as my wife is back in the States every six months this should not be an issue.

I am aware that I need to make sure she gets an I-155 stamp in her passport so she can leave the US.

My question is whether I have the green card sent to my online mail forwarding address. Does the green card come by Regular Mail, Registered Mail, Fed Ex.? I just want to make sure we have no issues. I am concurrently checking with the mail forwarding company as to what forms of mail they accept. Once we receive it, I can have it FedEx'd here to us in China.

I also can change this at POE if needed, correct?

mail forwarding ? eek -

here's the dealio -

IF there is a notice with USPS to FORWARD the postal mail -

then the green card will not be delivered - the outside has a logo 'do not forward'

but if yer using a private company that has an actual address for you, on you (even if it's THEIR address, and not yours)

then it's ok - here's some example:

John Smith

1222 Anywhere Lane

UNIT 2911

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

now, that private company has their postal address at 1222 Anywhere Lane, and YOUR POSTAL BOX WITH THEM is unit 2911. No Postal order exists with USPS to forward the mail, in this example.

---

IF, on the other hand, you have a postal forward order in place with USPS, sorry, green card will never be delivered.

HTH ?!?!?

It is a private company with a Street Address that looks like an apartment address. As far as the USPS knows, there is no mail forwarding.

Does it come regular mail?

green card comes via regular mail - the most the mail processor will know is that there's a thick piece o plastic in it.

I can't recall if there's an actual US GOV office name on the return address, or no.
