My fiance and I just received our NOA2 March 31 and our petition should be at the Peru consulate at any time now. I have been searching prices of plane tickets, because I will be traveling to Peru for the interview. I know there are a lot of threads already about buying roundtrip tickets instead of one way. I will need a roundtrip ticket starting in United States. We can buy my fiance a roundtrip ticket as well, but does his ticket have to go from Peru to United States and back to Peru? Or is it possible to buy two roundtrip tickets from United States to Peru and back? I'm not sure how to do this and still allow us to be on the same plane, sitting next to each other on the trip to United States. I'm sure I'm thinking wayyyy to into this, but any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not positive but I think if you buy a round trip ticket in the U.S. and you don't use the first trip of the ticket then it cancels your return ticket. You may need to buy a round trip ticket from Lima - US - Lima (which sucks cause it's more expensive!) for your fiance. Or one way (which, from the sites I've been looking at, seems to be almost the same price but with more stops).

Your fiance will need a ticket that originates in Peru. Also, I would check prices to see if a one-way is cheaper. I don't know about for Peru, but for Haiti one-ways are almost 1/2 the price of roundtrip tickets! As far as getting seats next to each other, if you're buying the tickets directly from an airline, you can often go on and choose your seats.

Dear, Lima isn't nearly as bad as some South/Latin American embassies, but "presuming" the issuance of a visa is playing with fire. If you must buy his ticket now, leave several days' "padding" after the interview and be sure that everything is changeable or generously refundable. Of course, everyone hopes for the best for both of you, but it's important to be realistic: expect the best, prepare for the worst. Si, man?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hello, Where are you flying from? We had our interview on Tues and the visa was ready the following Monday, so if you can stay a week after you can fly together. It's very difficult to buy his ticket in advance, you never know what delays can come up. If you must, I would buy a ticket with a low change fee if possible. The only airline that I know of that does not charge extra for a one way ticket it Spirit, they fly from Lima to Ft Lauderdale on Sun and Wed right now....they will have daily flights in May.

When my husband had his interview. I bought a round trip ticket for him in advance of the interview and set the departure date about a week after the interview. If you have to then you can simply change the flight. Book the flight orginating in Peru and returing to peru. You can choose your seats with most airlines. I just went online and selected two seats next to each other. After he got to the USA I canceled his return portion and got a credit for future travel. good luck with the interview!
