Confused...question

My husband is here on the K3 and the I130 is still waiting to be approved. I called the visa center and reported my husband here in the states and then he sent the AR11 to let USCIS know he's in the states. I called the USCIS center and got CSC where my I130 is and they said I needed to fill out the I824 and pay 200.00 to let them know my husband is here in the States. I don't know of any others who have done this, just notified the USCIS with the AR11 and the Visa center by phone in which we have done. Does anyone know about this I824?

They said the purpose of this is to change consulates, to change where he will be having his interview here. I thought that was taken care of with the AOS once the I130 is approved.

To my knowledge and from others experiences, this is not required and I think you have just been subject to the infamous 'misinformation line'.

The I-824 is used to request a duplicate approval notice, request approval notice to another U.S. Consulate; and to request notice to a U.S. Consulate for derivative visas to family members (as per the USCIS site). You are not changing conusulates.......you are adjusting status in the US.
