WASHINGTON—Standard & Poor's cut its ratings outlook on the U.S. to negative from stable while keeping its Triple-A rating on the world's largest economy.

"More than two years after the beginning of the recent crisis, U.S. policymakers have still not agreed on how to reverse recent fiscal deterioration or address longer-term fiscal pressures," said Standard & Poor's credit analyst Nikola G. Swann.

U.S. stocks plunged. Bond yields rose.

A senior Treasury Department official said that Standard & Poor's negative outlook underestimates the country's ability to face fiscal challenges.

"We believe S&P's negative outlook underestimates the ability of America's leaders to come together to address the difficult fiscal challenges facing the nation," said assistant secretary Mary Miller.

Bill Gross began shorting Fed-debt February. :whistle:

Gross began dumping Fed-debt shortly after Geithner started crying about the debt ceiling. :crying:

Obama started eluding to a willingness to make budget compromises right before Geithner began wailing. :help:

Interesting and exciting to watch this unfold. :energy:

I disagree. The country has no ability to face fiscal challenges.

The out-of-control spending will continue until we don't have a country left.
