Why the LONG wait?

Hello!

I am just wondering if there is any way for the NVC to expedite a CR1 interview in Manila? I understand about the k3, but I think it's a little bit too late for my hubby and I to file for one since all we are waiting for is the bloody interview sched. My case has been completed since Dec.9,2005 and upto now, no news yet! My hubby is in the military and there is a possibility of deployment in Iraq by November and i'm still stuck here!

There is little to do but wait I'm afraid. Its terrible that manila has such a backlog. Hang in there.

Yes there is something you can do. Since your husband is in the military, you can get a military expedite for the interview based on an upcoming assignment to Iraq. Get a letter from his CO stating the possibility of his deployment and ask to have the interview expedited. Fax the letter to the immigrant visa section in Manila.

There are 2 types of expedites I know of being granted in Manila. The most common is for pending military deployment of the USC and the other is for pending medical procedures of the USC where the presence of the visa beneficiary would be of assistance.

I asked for a expedite based on the medical reason and Marlene was granted an interview 2 months early. I've seen several military expedites approved.

Thank you John and Marlene for your info. I appreciate it that there is someone out there who understands our case. I will give my husband a call later and tell him what you had just said. We actually called his state Congressman and said he will work together with my husband's officers to make that letter explaining why we are requesting for an early schedule.

So you think that we should fax/send that letter directly to the embassy in manila and not at the NVC? All our documents are still at the NVC right now.

Thank so much for the valuable info and for the other's words of encouragement.

I also forgot to add this, but the orders for deployment hasn't been officially set yet. Would the Army approve of our request for that letter even if that is the case?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with how/when Manila is informed about CR1 interview requirements. Do you have a Manila case number yet? I just figure that if you are waiting on Manila to grant an interview, they must have some information on your case. My letter referenced our MNL2005xxxxxx case number and gave my name and SSN and her name.

If you have a case number assigned, I would fax it directly to Manila. If not, you may need to work with the NVC

I do have a case number already My husband called the NVC one time and was informed that it its them (the NVC) who provides the schedule of interview. They are only given by the embassy in Manila the number of CR1/IR1 petitions they are willing to give a schedule on a specific month. Scheduling is done only during the 1st 2 weeks of the month so you could just imagine the stress it gives us everytime the month starts just to find out you are still not on the list. It would be easier for us to wait if we know my husband isn't leaving and be on tour for a year, but that's not the case for us. It's really depressing, for real!

I would guess NVC is the place to deal with then. I'll be anxious to hear if your congressman and the letter from his commanding officer nudge the NVC into sending your case with the next batch going to Manila. I think it's the least that can be done for those soldiers risking their lives for our country.

Thank you for your help again, Capt.! Your last words almost made me tear up! It's definitely the least they could do for us and for those who are in the same dilemma as ours. I have high respect for my husband and for all military personnel who are working honorably for their country. I'll keep you guys posted. Please pray for us that something positive would turn up real soon.
