Im not sure if its unlocked or not, my nokia was locked but I dont have any experience with a motorola. You might want to buy a sim card with roaming emabled on ebay and put it in the phone to know for sure if its unlocked..thats what I did once.

Cingular is all GSM, but you have to check the frequencies. Some GSM phones sold in the US can be used worldwide but some can't. If it's locked to Cingular you are screwed anyway.

The phone will need to be tri-band or quad-band and the sim lock disabled.

I have a Nokia tri-band phone that I use with my Tmobile account in the U.S. and prepaid sims in the PI.

Quickest way to test it out is calling your friends on a landline, asking them if they have T-Mobile service, bring their phone over, take their SIM insert in your C139. If it boosts up, your phone is unlock.

More extensive search/google actually:

Motorola C139

I saw this deal on Slickdeals and Fatwallet last week... Cool deal: $30 pre-paid cellphones, can't beat the price!!!

It runs on 850, 1900 bands (also 900 and 1800)

Good luck!

The 900/1800 bands are on the Euro/Asian version, I assume your U.S. version (850/1900) will not work in the philippines.

hey vj'ers, anybody know...if i take a cingular 2 d philippines wud i b able 2 use it w/ a globe or smart sim card? thx

My fiance now (my husband) bought a new motorola razr few months before he went to the Philippines (March 2005) He bought the motorola razr from Cingular and use their service. My husband ask them if the mobile is lock or unlock. The cingular told my husband the phone is unlock and ready to be use anytime when he is going to the Philippines. So, I bought a globe sim card and sent it to my husband and he put it in his celphone and thought that it would work when he step out from the plane at Manila Airport. Well, it didn't work! We went to Robinsons Mall near the Manila Embassy and we get it unlock, we pay about 3,000.00 peso (depend on the name brand of the cel) about 50 US dollar.

My husband bought me a new Motorola razr and he sent it to Motorola main office to unlock it. So, things wont happen to us again. When we go home to the Philippines.

My suggestion is you could ask your fiancee to send you a roaming sim card (globe or smart). Use the roaming sim to send her a text message. That way you could try if your celphone is lock or unlock.

The answer from Cingular: "yes it would work and ready to go when you arrive in the philipines" is 100% correct, IF you use Cingular network, in the philipines. BUT, to use another SIM/network, this RAZR will not work. Since Cingular Razr is locked into cingular system.

To unlock, you need to be with Cingular for 30-60 days (on contract), then you can call their "INTERNATIONAL SERVICE DEPT" to ask for an UNLOCK code. You need to provide Cingular the serial code in the back of your phone to have this UNLOCK CODE send to you via email.

Good luck.

remember, the answer from Cingular is 100% true, they will will and ready to use when you arrive in any country, BUT you will be calling and receiving calls through Cingular's network/system and get charged ROAMING :)
