Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum so I hope I'm posting in the right place.

I've read that "To demonstrate residency in a consular district, American Citizen petitioners must be able to show that they have permission to reside in the consular district and that they have been doing so continuously for at least six months before filing the petition." This seems true for all US consulates in Canada.

However, Montreal's US consulate website specifically seems to be saying the residency requirement is 12 months. ?? Does anyone know why this is, or if this is indeed true? I've lived in Montreal for almost 2 years, but only obtained my permanent resident card in July 2010. If I want to submit an i-130 for my husband at the US consulate in Montreal on May 1, 2011, will they be very strict about my only having been a legal permanent resident for 10 months? Will they tell me I can't even file i-130 until exactly a year after I obtained my permanent residency?

Thanks for any info/insight!
