After no notice at all since the IMBRA RFE July 17, I just got a notice that they are sending out another RFE!

I have no idea what that could be.

So they'll probably send it to the lawyer. That lawyer that was supposed to keep the RFE's away! And then he'll let me know in a week or three.

The lawyer that was supposed to make this whole thing happen in five or six months...

I really wish I had done this process myself, but I didn't know then what I know now.

This is one more vote against hiring a lawyer if your case is not complicated.

Or if you do hire a lawyer, send the paperwork yourself. Then you'll know what you sent!!!

nfs, the lawyer has no way to impact how fast or slow things move aside from actually responding to requests or sending out info in a timely manner. Chances are very good that once you send your RFE response, your approval will come shortly thereafter. Hang in there!

nfs,

Agreed, one of the reasons for retaining an attorney is to reduce the risk of getting an RFE. But an attorney cannot eliminate the risk.

Since you haven't yet seen the RFE are you sure that your case does not have a complication? Sounds to me like it does, whatever the cause of it. (Sometimes the complications are created by the USCIS.)

Cass,

RFEs have been good for people? Really? No matter how soon after responding to an RFE an approval comes, it would have come sooner had there not been an RFE.

Clearly the RFE is for missing evidence. Could be anything ranging from a missing signature, to copies of passport pages (Like the RFE I received).

Just turn the RFE around immediately. In fact, you should send it USPS Express, with the following written on the front and back of the document envelope: ATTN:RFE In red marker.

This is the exact information, from the letter sized return envelope CSC sent.

In all probability, you will see an approval right after the RFE is received. For me, 3 days.

I should clarify. I didn't mean that RFEs expedite the process. But I did mean that getting a second RFE a lot of times can mean you are heading towards the end, and can be a good indication that your approval is coming quickly thereafter (if you satsify the RFEs request accurately). At least that's what I've seen in a lot of the second RFE cases on this board.

People see a second RFE as a death sentence. And in the cases I've seen, shortly after sending it back accurately, they get approvals.

But you're not hiring the lawyer to do the work, really. You are hiring them for their knowledge, experience, expertise, resources and to be a trouble shooter 'just in case'.

How would the lawyer access your personal records, if that's what you mean by 'work'? You're the one who has all the docs; she tells you what you need to gather.

I agree that it's a good idea to know what she *should* be doing, just as I would with any professional I hire.

Maybe just a need to redefine why you hire a lawyer?

yes, I agree that a lawyer does not speed up things, though that was not my impression when I hired him. I'm not sure my lawyer was BAD or anything--at least not yet, because I don't know what the RFE is. But I would have saved a lot of money doing it myself and then I'd be much more aware of what was in the application and what I might have left out.

I hope everyone is right (and thanks for the comments, everyone!) that my approval may be near. Depending on what the RFE is, but I wouldn't think it would be too bad. It was nice to get a little actual attention from USCIS!

The timing is pretty bad because I'm leaving for Russia tomorrow. I won't be able to sign anything for a month. Although maybe I can fax a signature. But I am so happy to see K again that I don't think I even care! :luv::dance::lol:

I don't think you should hire a lawyer to send in your forms for you! Of course a lawyer can be really useful or even essential sometimes. But, for my particular application so far, VJ has actually been a much bigger help to me than my lawyer. Unfortunately I didn't find out about it early enough.

I'll post again when I know what happened.
