We did it! We were married April 22, received red books then went to nearest public notary for white books. Thanks again for your help.

September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned

Is it best to use a service such as "marriagevisa.com" or try to fumble through the process myself? Marriagevisa say they can provide Chinese language support if needed. I just want everything to go through smooth.

Is it best to use a service such as "marriagevisa.com" or try to fumble through the process myself? Marriagevisa say they can provide Chinese language support if needed. I just want everything to go through smooth.

Even if you use a service, you will still have to gather information yourself and send it to them (I believe they will assemble it for you).

People have to decide what they feel is best for them in regards to hiring an attorney or using a service agency for their case. What works for one couple does not always work for another.

My two cents is this, if one feels they can handle the process on their own, they don't need to spend extra money for a lawyer or service agency. On the flip side, if they feel overwhelmed and are totally uncomfortable with the process or if their case is a complex one, then legal or agency assistance may be something for them to consider. Ultimately the person making the call will know what the best call is.

When do I need to collect and supply the police report/criminal information? What stage in the process?

You wife will obtain that from the Notary Office where her hukou is located. The best time to obtain it is when you receive the NOA2. They are valid for one year from the date they are issued. It will be asked for by the NVC. Furthermore, the Consulate has the discretion of asking for a police certificate that has been issued within the last 6 months.

Will I also need to obtain police/criminal report for the I-130 submit? If not, when is best time to get?
