Hi,

Having just discovered this board last night :D and haven't had much support through this process (it's been since July/August), I have a few questions...

My fiance has his interview in London on March 7th. We have all the appropriate documents ready for him to take with, and we've had a lawyer through the entire process so we know it's being done correctly.

What are some possible reasons why a person WOULDN'T be approved for their visa at the interview? Is it true that typically once you've made it to that point it'll be approved?

We're very tight on time with having our wedding on April 1st. We can't afford for anything to be wrong.

I've read that it sounds pretty quick and painless once you're actually in there (aside from the wait time). I hope that's true as I know my fiance will be very anxious.

Thanks for your help!

Although the success rate through London is pretty high, nothing is garunteed and you shouldn't assume anything until your Fiance is in your arms on US soil.

Recently problems seem to have arisen from issues regarding peoples police checks and or previous problems or overstays on VWP visits.

If your Fiance has NEVER been in trouble with the police and has NEVER overstayed on any pervious VWP visits then as long as he has all the documents requested during his interview, he should be just fine.

In reality most interviews through London (mine included) were a piece of cake and nothing to worry about whatsoever.

Mark :)

I am speaking in general and it varies from country to country. If the CO does not think it is a real relationship, no second letter of intent (Colombia), missing documents, I-134 does not meet requirements, they want more information (interview postponed to a later date), and many more. There are arrays of reason for them to turn you down but you could appeal their decision. Maybe other can give you more information.

Good luck,

I think that once you've made it to the interview stage, without any RFE's, you are pretty much guaranteed to get approved, unless there are criminal background problems or waiver problems.

The interview is nothing compared to what you are probably expecting. Relax and everything should be alright.

Have a good wedding (you sure were brave to plan the wedding without knowing you were going to get approval by then, though..... I'm too chicken for that).

Hi Mrs its  Gladdy here, :D Im sure he will do just fine ok as I have read myself on here London does seem to be a pretty much painless scenario but like us you too have had a lawyer working on it for you but we must not take that as the path to any special previleges so he must check and double check he has all his documents and plenty of copies of things he may not get back from them so you still have them to hand for the next stage in the USA the AOS once you are married. We are blessed with the luxury of having a lawyer work on it some on here dont have that so I cant imagine how they cope with it all and I am in Admin as my profession. All I would say beyond what I have already stated is that he should go along as I will the very next day with a positive attitude and at all times remember your future fate and life is in their hands and that means they deserve a great deal of respect which if shown will count a lot towards a successful interview. Thats my plan for the day and Iam sticking to it. Oh and I hope he paid his fee and obtained his receipt for the Admin charges cause he will need to attached that for the interview, its the red copy slip from the paying in slip. Keep the balck one for your own records. and Good Luck...:thumbs::thumbs:

Thanks! I think he'll be fine. He has a clean criminal record (has the proper paperwork to bring with for that), we have plenty of evidence to support our relationship.

Another question I have is something that Gladdy mentioned...what was that about a payment receipt? Who does he pay his fee (admin charges) to? Is it done somewhere before the interview? Yikes! I'm not sure I've heard about that unless it came to him with his paperwork regarding the interview.

Packet 4 from the Embassy (the one confirming his interview date etc..) will contain a payment slip for the visa fee. I beleive he can take it to any Barclays bank and pay the fee with no additional costs. If he takes it to another bank they may charge to process the fee. The bank keep one half of the slip and he takes the other half with him to the interview as proof that he's paid.

The only other money he'll hand over on the day of the interview is the money paid for the courier who delivers his passport back to him, complete with his K-1 visa hopefully, a day or so after his successful interview.

All the payment process will be explained in the paperwork that comes out with packet 4.

Mrs Darby ME AGAIN LOL...Gladdy. the payment slip I refer to is for admin they send it to you with packet 4 which is the letter they use to inform you of your interview date and time. In the UK they say to be paid in cash at any Barclays Bank branch and the slip has a Black and a Red receipt slip at the front end which the bank stamps with an official date stamp. They then give you back both of the receipt tags and your fiancee will have instructions on the document he has to pin the RED COPY RECEIPT to for presentation at the interview so they can see you have paid for the Admin charges for the Visa Processing at Consular level.

Hope this is helpful.... B) B):thumbs::wacko: gladdy

I think you'll be fine, as long as you have a real relationship and provide the proper financial information London seems to be pretty easy to get through :)

Good luck with your interview- IMHO the anxiety prior to the interview is much more painful then the interview itself. I felt such a rush of relief at our approval, I promptly burst into tears. If you have all your paperwork together, your fiance has never overstayed, and he has no criminal record, you should have no problems.

See my timeline for all previous dates!

Naturalization:

6/28/09: Mail N-400 to Texas

7/6/09: NOA1

7/24/09: Biometrics

10/08/09: Interview

11/21/09: Receive oath date

01/22/10: Oath Date

With thanks to all the helpful people who made this journey slightly more bearable.
