Sad news, how do I cancel the petition??

After a very speedy (maybe too speedy) petition approval process, I am sad to report the relationship is ending. The petition was approved and a case number assigned. The paperwork should already be in Manila at the US Embassy. What steps do I, as the petitioner, need to take to stop the visa process. I don't believe an interview has been scheduled yet. Thanks for the help guys/gals. Although its not a pleasant time, your input is appreciated.

Can you just abandon it? I don't know if your former fiancee would try to get the visa on her own without your cooperation, but if you don't send her the necessary documents it seems that would be nigh on impossible.

If you think you might want to petition for a new foreign fiancee in the future, I suppose it would be more important to officially cancel the application. Maybe contact the embassy in Manilla?

I had to cancel a K-1 visa application last year. Mine was not as far along. Since the paperwork is in Manila that is who you should write.

You need to write them a letter, siteing the case number and tell them you are cancelling the applicaton and wish to have it withdrawn without prejudice. Don't expect to hear back from them for a while but eventually you will get a letter.

12/14/2006 Applied for K-1 with request for Waver for Multiple filings within 2 years.
Waiting - Waiting - Waiting

Write letters to the U.S. Embassy in Manila, NVC, and your service center and give them a call. You want everything documented and done correctly in case you ever want to do this process with your current fiancée or a new fiancée.

I can tell you this is not as quick as you would believe. From experience. I sent a cancel email (never acknowledged). I also sent a letter to the consolate, embassy, NVC, and the INS. I called the service center phone number but the lady just said to 'mail a cancel request to the same place as you mailed the petition'. She couldnt verify if they recieved it, although I had sent it to all four places. Three months later I recieved a letter informing me of the interview scheduled that week??? I then resent all letters once again, explaining I needed the process cancelled as well as copies of the original letters. I eventually got a notice from Manila that the case was sent back to the states. The state department, then closed their file and sent it back to the INS. They finally closed it. This took 7 months. The worst part is that I recieved a letter from the embassy that said they received the cancel request with 4 months prior date. Go figure. It seemed that the cancel flowed back from embassy, NVC, to the INS. I however would send letters to all of them certified (I didnt the first time). If I was to speculate, the offices without your file currently seem to do nothing (explaining why INS didnt cancel with two letters sent until 7 mths after the first, 4 mths after the second). Also, I would call the NVC to verify it gets cancelled there to prevent someone from attending the interview without your knowledge. Not being cynical, just this coud come back on you if it did happen.

Hope this helps. I would not just assume it goes away. That was the mistake I did, then needed it 'officially' cancelled and it was still a 7 month process.

Good luck and sorry to here your news.
