One requirement at K1 visa interview is police certificate from countries you lived in for 6 months. I lived in the US for 5 years, does that mean I have to obtain an FBI clearance/certificate?

You will need a clearance if you are the beneficiary.

My fiancee (the beneficiary) was also in the US for over a year as an au pair. What steps do we need to take to get this FBI clearance? Thanks!

10/01/2010: Engaged
10/29/2010: I-129f sent UPS to TX
11/02/2010: I-129f delivered to TX service center @ 12:13 PM
11/08/2010: Check to Homeland Security cleared
11/13/2010: NOA1 received

04/26/2011: NOA2 received

06/07/2011: Interview date

06/09/2011: Visa received

06/18/2011: US entry

06/25/2011: Marriage

07/28/2011: Employment Authorization Document filed

10/03/2011: EAD approved

10/06/2011: EAD received

09/30/2012: Matthew Jacob born!

08/27/2013: I-751 sent FedEx to Vermont

01/11/2014: New green card received

Were you in the US on an immigrant visa? I am assuming so - since you were there for so long. That being said, you will require one.

If you weren't a resident, I don't believe one is required, even if you are the beneficiary.

01/23/23... interview scheduled for 02/28 

02/28/23... successful interview + oath ceremony in Santa Ana, CA! so proud! certificate of naturalization received! --> Read the review here!

I read somewhere here on visa journey, that you don't need a police certificate from USA just other places. I think you should research it here and you will find this topic, there people say you don't need it, I know because I had the same doubt as you and I researched here and I find a topic similar to yours.

Good luck in your process!

(But I don't know if this can change because you had a different visa)

No. You do not need a police certificate from the US. USCIS and NVC and the consulates have access to any US records.

7.14.2014 Early Biometrics Walk-In (Bronx ASC- gave us hard time and made us wait an hour and a half just to receive a number but we got it done) (Day 19)

7.29.2014 Status changed to "Testing and Interview" (no text or email notification) (Day 34)

8.28.2014 Received Text/Email "Card/Document Production" (Day 64 (Day 59 from Priority Date))

9.5.2014 Received Text/Email that EAD card has been mailed (Day 72 (Day 67 from PD))
