They don;t always do this but yes, it does happen. They'd ask neighbours if they'd seen you with your fiance and whether they see you with other women and so on.

Yes, I know for sure they do that, and they find out all kind of surprises. I have a story about this guy from Cairo, they found out he is married to an Egyptian wife, and in the meantime, another USC was petitioning for him as a husband from the US, and other stories.

let me give you a quick example. If I am a CO, and someone shows me a bunch of pics for him and his wife or fiancee. I don't see any family members in any of the pics. This makes me wonder if his family knows about this marriage. Because if someone is really married why would it be a secret? Why wouldn't his family or neighbors know about it? In this case, I would send someone to ask about him in his building.

Remember that COs know about all the culture and traditions of the country where they serve. It is very unusual in Egypt or even anywhere for someone to be married, and nobody knows about it. That justifies the COs suspicions.

This is just an example, but there is lot of other reasons, why would they send to investigate. If everything is going the way it should no one should worry about being investigated. The only bad thing about this AP is that it takes long time and I won't like to go through it, because I really miss my fiancee and want to see her here in the US ASAP. So, the best thing to do is try your best to make your case as clear as possible during the interview, and inchallah everything should be fine

I forgot to tell you another personal experience with this AP. It actually happened with my father. Years ago, my older brother was supposed to get married to this Egyptian girl here in the US. He applied for a visa, and he got it. Later on things changed, and it didn't work out between my brother and his fiancee. So there was no more reason for my dad to come for, and he changed his mind.

When he came to apply for his new visa with my mother, my mother got her visa renewed right away. He had to go through AP. Because the consulate saw something could be wrong with someone obtaining the visa, then not travel. They see it in a different way. May be he did travel, overstayed, and lied to them. May be he committed a crime, went to prison at this time, that is why he didn't travel.

There can be too many reasons why someone wouldn't travel after he got the visa. They don't have to believe your version. They like to make sure themselves, that there was nothing that went wrong.

They will not only send someone to your neighborhood but also to your home even to talk to your family if they suspected that your relationship with your wife is not real

So if you have a simple case like, your wife never been married, never applied to anyone before you, you have never been married and there is no big age difference between the two of you, and your name is not Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Abd El Hameed lol

you're most likely to get out of AP soon

Find a job you love to do, and you will never work another day in your life.

From my understanding, it's quite common for the embassy send out someone for a follow up with your family and friends. They did it to my husband. They actually sent someone out to speak with his mother and brother in Luxor. Also they did alot of talking to people in his village.

Lots of field investigation apparently.

Field investigators are often Nationals who speak the language and are familiar with the culture. No one suspects them as embassy staff as they

often do not introduce themselves as such but rather mingle asking questions like a friend would.

Wow i have never heard of this. As you know we didn't have to go through AP and we had no problem. I in the past had filed a fiancé visa with my ex in Morocco and my husband now is 25 and i am 31. So i am happy that didn't happen with us. That is scary to know someone might be watching you at all times. Watching your every move.

Do they do this for all countries? My fiancée is in Paraguay where the houses don't actually have addresses. Luckily the street he lives on has a name. It would be very hard for someone to just find his house being that he lives in the country. Would they contact us if they were looking for his house and couldn't find it?

My husband didn't have AP. After his packet was sent to the embassy in Cairo and we got the email with the interview date, a man showed up in his village asking questions about our relationship. He actually went to his mother's home and talked to her when he was at work one day. It happened about a week or 2 before the interview. I didn't know about it until after I got to Cairo to attend the interview with my husband.

He had his interview on a Monday and received his visa the following Sunday. 1 day after I left. Figures.

Wow I didn't think they had the manpower to do something like this and that was the excuse of why this process takes forever and a day. Why don't they just do this from the beginning and save people a year of waiting? They could come to either my parents house or her parents' house and ask all the questions they want and in an hour we could be done with it all and she could have her visa. Instead of spying on people they could simply make the process more efficient.
