No return flight

So somehow my fiance got mixed up and missed a return flight and booked round trip on his last trip back to england, so hes coming for a visit monday, but we'll have to book round trip for him to go back to england for the interview. so basically, he's flying in with no flight back to england planned yet. but, he does have that vwp thing. Does anyone know if this will be a problem? can he just say he'll be here for a few weeks till we hear when his interview in london is?

Bad idea to come in with no return ticket, IMO... They always, or at least often, ask for return tickets. And he should also have strong ties to home country and proof of it. Otherwise he'll be denied at POE.

He cannot use the VWP without a return ticket, here are the requirements:-

if entering the United States by air or sea is:

holding a return or onward ticket. If traveling on an electronic ticket, a copy of the itinerary must be carried for presentation to U.S. immigration at the port of entry.

In fact I would very surprised if the airline even let him board the flight in the UK, as they will see he doesn't comply with the VWP regulations.

I sort of did the same thing, but my return flight was with the K1.

So yes if entering on the VWP he will need another ticket, presumable another return which he can use for final entry.

Best to prepare some return flight and have proof of it - my fiance came over to England in May and, though he'd booked a return flight, he hadn't printed off the ticket to show to the entry people. He was almost denied until he explained in actual fact we were filing for a K1 for me to go to the USA, and luckily he had the original NOA1 and 2 to prove this in his carry on which he bought over for me. He just about got through. It held him up so much he didn't get into arrivals lounge until 2 and a half hours after landing. Better safe than sorry.

Hah just realised how late I am on the uptake! Didn't realise I was that far into the threads. Oh well. Hope everything went smoothly!

I recently visited California for 4 weeks and at customs was never asked to show a return ticket or any other kind of evidence.
