I wanted to see the regulation for myself. People do many things, but I want to be sure 1. That I am always truthful and 2. That I fully understand what I’m doing. That’s all... Thank you everyone for your answers, I really appreciate them.

PunchBuggyBlue, congrats on your marriage! I am in a similar situation and was wondering how things went for you. What did you wife say at POE? Was she questioned about marriage?

Hi KWG17,

Well it all went very well. My wife flew into JFK here in New York. When asked why she was visiting she said she was here to visit her boyfriend. She said the guy was kind of nasty and asked why she didn't have a Brazilian boyfriend, or why she had an American boyfriend... or something to that effect. She told him that we met online and that was the end of it. He didn't ask if she planned on getting married while here. My wife has a daughter in Brazil and we figured that would show "strong ties" and that she's not an immigration risk, but we didn't even get that far. He just stamped her passport and that was that. Next day we got our marriage license and 24 hours later we were married. Be sure that your future spouse brings whatever documents you need for your marriage license and allow time to have them documented. In my case I went in person to the people who issue the license, found out what documents my wife needed to show, and had them translated before she arrived. I even went back with the documents and said, "Is this all we need?"

As you can tell from this thread, I went through a lot to be absolutely sure that getting married on a B2 is legal, and as you can see from the responses, it is... no problem!

I am in a similar situation and I find all of your comments very helpful. In fact my boyfriend and I intend to get married if he gets his visitor visa, in the USA, then both of us will be heading back to his country of birth to do missions work. The reason he is coming is for several different reasons, first it is to help me establish my ministry, raise funds (he already has a ministry and I will be working beneath his ministry), visit with people and also to get married. When writing the letters of invitation and other such things is it necessary to include our plans to marry?? Is that important to include, or doesn't it matter, he is a visitor and to establish his ties and they are happy????

Thanks

Hi Kellykellyjo,

good to be in ministry!!!! What country would you be serving in? Regarding your questions, you might want to start a separate thread so more people will see it. My wife had her visa before we met. I don't know much about any of this stuff but I'm learning a lot from the posts and people on this site. I do know that this idea of "intending to immigrate" is a big deal and I would guess that a tourist visa would not be issued if there were suspicion that you guys were trying to stay in the US. However, my wife and I will try to obtain a student visa for her daughter, even though we have started the immigration process. We wan her daughter to start school in the US, then return to Brazil to finish the immigration process when the paper work is ready... gonna take lot's of prayer to pull this one off:-) I hope this goes well for you.

John
