So, how does everyone carry the super-huge x-ray?

My husband was wondering what everyone does with their x-rays on the plane. It's such a huge thing, but he wants to make sure it doesn't get damaged in transit. I can't imagine everyone just holds it the entire way  , but what would you do?

I just put mine in my checked luggage and was never asked for it at YVR ...

If he is going through customs in a Canadian airport then it should be okay to put it in your checked luggage because you go through customs prior to dropping off your luggage ... If they ask to see it then he could easily take it out and give it to them ... If they don't then he doesn't have to carry the darn thing for the rest of the trip :)

I put mine in my hand luggage - I had a the biggest carry on allowed and it sat in the bottom. After all the security changes, I believe they've changed sizes of hand luggage allowances. However, you are told to carry it with you at all times.

Actually Vancouver never instructed me to do that ... In fact Vancouver tells you to not even bring it to your Interview at the Consulate ... (Atleast that was the instructions at the time of my interview) ...

After they gave my the K-1 Visa they told me to take it to take the xray to the US with me as I may need it there ...

Maybe the officer in Vancouver told me the wrong information but I never needed to show it at ... Actually it has never been out of the folder from the day I got it from the doctor at the medical appointment and it is now stored away in my suitcase ...

I laid mine flat in the bottom of the suitcase and piled my clothes on top of it. However, it is the report prepared by the doctor inside the medical package that interprets the x-ray that is important. X-rays need to be read by radiologists, not lay people in USCIS or American consulates:-) so you don't need it for the interview after all. I have never heard of anyone being asked to present their x-ray. I still have mine here and it has been used once for a comparison with a more recent x ray here but other than that, it stays in its big paper bag.

It was such a pain to carry! We wound up carrying it (with the sealed envelope some of the time) all day around Vancouver, and then my husband had to carry it when he traveled to the U.S., too. We rolled it up and tried not to bend it too much. No one's ever looked at it yet. :)

Conditions Removed! Ten-year green card received 6/24/2009. No more USCIS for a very long time.

Hmmmm! I wonder if since the doctor is sending the x-ray to the states where Darcy is going to be until the interview if we should just keep it here in the states.

What do ya think?

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about carrying around the big x-ray . . it is the radiologists report that is in the medical that is important. I have found out here in the States that Doctor's will often provide you with the MRI or the XRay that YOU have PAID for if you are not a repeat client of theirs. I suspect it is the same situation. You paid for the XRay at the medical - the doctor read the xray for the information (yes, you have tuberculosis or no you don't have tuberculosis:-) ), made his report and then handed you the xray. In Canada we are just not used to receiving xrays or test results that are done since they are usually covered through the provincial health plan and we do not view them as 'ours'. As long as he brings the sealed medical envelope to the interview he should be good to go without the actual xray.
