I filed my I-601 Back in Dec, the notice told me to send it to the address on the notice, which was the Atlanta Field office. a week later it was time stamped them returned, and told me to send it to the Lock box which I did.

I got conflicting answers on the USCIS 1800 #, which some officers told me it was in MI, and some of them told me it was in Atlanta. even one Tier 2 officer said MI- then i called a few days later and the other one told me it was in Atlanta.

Is it normal for them to send it back to the Field Office to be processed? I just don't want it sitting there and not being processed.

I know its not passed the processing time, i just want to know if anyone knows if this is normal?

I did make an info pass appointment in atlanta, just in case. :bonk:

No where do I see Atlanta as the correct office to file an I601 while the I485 is pending.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-601instr.pdf

Look at the instructions on where to file I601, if you had filed I601 WITH the I-485 it would be a different address apparenetly. Post I-485 filing seems to be a different address;

Applicants who have a pending Form I-485 must file Form I-601 with a USCIS Lockbox facility, based on the first 3 letters in their application receipt number. Detailed guidance can be found in updated Form I-601 instructions as well as at www.uscis.gov. Applicants must include a copy of the I-797C, Notice of Action, showing that their Form I-485 was accepted.

If the I-797C “Notice of Action” receipt number for acceptance of your I-485 begins with:

Then mail your application to:

“MSC” or does not have a 3-letter code at the beginning of the receipt number

i had my I-485 interview in Atlanta. they said i was approved, then a month later, instead of getting my GC, i got a letter saying i needed to apply for the I-601. it said to return to the address on the letter which was Atlanta. I sent it to them, and i got it sent back to me (stamped) and telling me that i need to send it to Chicago. I got a notice it said it was approved. but now i think they sent it back to atlanta? but i was also told it was in MI. im confused!

Sorry i can not edit- i meant notcie i got saying It was recieved- not approved. its still in process

This is a scenario that I would recommend talking to a Senator, they might be able to tell you what office its in, or maybe contact the USCIS Ombudsman, they might be able to track down where it is. Don't do both at the same time, just one.

So what happens when you do "case tracking online"? Is this another instance where the case status online is not working? I thought it worked if cases were being adjudicated stateside.

What is the uscis ombudsman? When I track it online it says its been received, (dec 29th) and is in inital review. No touch since jan 14th.

Good idea Sergi,

Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman

The Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman (CIS Ombudsman)

provides recommendations for resolving individual and employer problems with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). As mandated by the Homeland Security Act of 2002 § 452, CIS Ombudsman is an independent office that reports directly to the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security. The CIS Ombudsman:

* Assists individuals and employers in resolving problems with USCIS;

* Identifies areas in which individuals and employers have problems in dealing with USCIS; and

* Proposes changes to mitigate identified problems.

*Ombudsman can make headway in a situation like this because they can get fast answers on case status when there is no legitimate vehicle for the customer to do so as in the case of an I601.They are well aware of the I601 case status problems and have published several documents with recommendations on how to fix it. They like these calls because it is feedback that the recommendations are not being implemented, followed or if they are that the system is not working to the benefit of the petitioners. In any case they view it as real time research. I would expect they would be helpful and quick here to locate the file, or put everyone on alert to find the thing quick or put you in touch with someone who can.

Good luck
