Lets see what was i told:

Friend: Go for it

Dad: Are u sure he loves u? Do you love him? You are an adult, just be careful. Well that was then and now my dad treats us both like strangers.

Mom: A waited a long while to tell her, then she was like its dangerous, he only wants to marry you for the greencard. She called my aunts for them to try and talk me out of going...didnt work

Baby Sis: She was happy for me at that time

A pastor we knew: He was like he doesnt love u, he only wants a free ride to the US; why don't you find someone here in US(Alabama)? why dont you marry in ur own race? He also told my parents to forbid (so to speak) me to go, duh i was 31 yrs old at the time.

The first time you flew to the middle east to see your so, what did your family say?

I am happy that I did not have any horror stories to tell!. My sister lives in Casablanca with her husband of 11 years and their four kids so there was no negative feedback from anyone. They were just all happy that I married within my religion., which is a REALLY BIG deal to my brothers.

Which reminds me of a story. We have this radio station in Boston and this guy was talking about health violations in restaurants. This guy calls up from an Italian restaurant which is next to a Chinese restaurant in Revere, MA. The guy said that one night he was taking the trash out back when he saw a truck pull up with these big azz birds in the back. The cooks came out and took out the birds. He got a closer view, saw what they actually were and said, "hey......####### are you doing with those things?????", to which they replied, "it is our inventory".....................and he said, "inventory??? freakin inventory of what??????"

to which they replied

"beach chicken!!!!!"

Yup.....that chicken lo mein or the chicken with broccoli, etc. was actually 'beach chicken' aka seagull.

I never ate there again.........and it was my FAVORITE chinese restaurant because it all tasted so fresh!!!

Ummm, which restaurant? Billy Tse's????

The guy said, ' a very well known Chinese place near the beach in Revere"......it was on the Howie Carr show about four months ago. I can't think of any other place that is well known near the beach.

BUT...they do have another restaurant that we used to order from when I worked in Charlestown. Don't know where that one was.

I told a friend of mine who is married to a guy who lived near Billy Tse's in Revere and she said, "you don't even wanna know what goes on there......he has told me stories that would make your hair stand up!!!". She was not suprised at all by the seagull story.

That's funny. I think Phantom Gourmet reviewed Billy Tse's recently and gave it high marks. They must not have known about the seagulls.

That's gross. I've never eaten there and never will!

Now I'm paranoid. I am giving him a shopping list to have ready for when I come and chicken is a big part of that list........how will i know if it's not chicken?

hahaha.... funny story for you - we were visiting a friend of Said's in Marrakech in the souk and they invited us up to have lunch w/ them, so we did. I'm eating (it's delicious tagine) and at the end of the meal, his friend asks (in arabic) if I know what I just ate? Said asks me... I say (curiously) "chicken?" - they all giggled.... I had just eaten rabbit!!! It was quite tasty tho, but I might have been hesitant if I had known before hand. Don't be afraid to try a new experience! My only bad one (but I'm adventurous w/ food) was eating brains... I really didn't want to but he insisted I at least taste it.... eeeewwwwwwwwwwww!!!! nastola! honestly, i'm not real sure what it tasted like, but the texture was so gross.... It *is* a delicacy there... blech!

When my mother-in-law came and stayed with us for a month, she made a lamb for our wedding and we ate the Stomach and tounge the night before the wedding, the body the night of the wedding, and the head(eyes and brains) the night after the wedding. Now I will eat it as long as I don't know what part of the animal it came from. But when my friend told me we were having stomach I didn't want to eat it. I did though because I didn't want to be rude. I didn't know there was tounge until it was in my mouth and I felt the taste buds. My husband and MIL ate an eye each and she made me eat a bite of brain before Adil came home. When he came in I ran over to him and told him that I ate brain and he was all proud of me and told me that I would get smarter if I keep eating brains!:lol: Brain, tounge, and stomach have wierd textures, but if they are cooked right with alot of flavor, they don't taste that bad.

Hey Jerseygal, your sister moved to Morocco? Or is your family Moroccan and her husband moved there to be with her? I think thats so sweet! Which everway it happened. I think that if I didn't have a 13 year old daughter, I would be on my way too. It is so peaceful over there. i was treatd like a queen, but not only because of the way I was treated, the culture is so rich. We don't have it like that here. Everything is so "watered down" its pathetic!

My grandaddy had the nerve to try and tell me that I was pronouncing the word asalam alikoum "wrong", and he is one of the biggest losers I know.. not to get off in to talking about my family cuz they are who they are....... and thats exactly why I would go to morocco t be with my husband. As far as "turning muslim.... My real name is Muslimah... don't get to much more muslim than that! People trip me out when they see my name on a check or I have to spell it for them over the phone..."So, are you a mozzlem?" Do you see a "z" anywhere in my name fool!

Anyway, I know your sister is happy! I'm just waiting on my day!!!

Bislama

Pray with me Forrest! Dear God, make me a bird so I can fly far. Far, far away from here..... Dear God, make me a bird so I can fly far. Far, far away from here!
