In my desperate attempt to be completely ready for the NVC process (to make it go as quickly as possible, of course), I told my sweet husband to get his police certificates, and he was more than happy to comply. However, without realizing it, I may have screwed up a little......

The police certificate has a 3 month expiration date!!!

SO, if we don't get our interview before it expires in December, he'll have to wait for hours and pay the rather extravagent fee all over again. I feel really stupid. I'm trying so hard to do everything perfectly.

I didn't know there was an expiration date on the police certificates. I don't know much, I suppose, except that I need my husband. Too much.

ONE DAY AT A TIME....

Where are you getting the Expiry date?

No mention of this on the DOS site:

" POLICE RECORD

Police records (Certificado de Antecedentes Policiales) are available to applicants over the age of 16, and are issued on green paper with the heading “Policia Nacional del Peru, Division de Identificacion, Certificado de Antecedentes Policiales”. The applicant's photo is attached to the certificate. Applicants without criminal records will have "No Registra Antecedentes" printed on the form. A negative certificate does not necessarily mean the subject has no police record, since police records may be deleted upon completion of sentence. A police record may be issued to residents or non-residents upon application to Policia de Investigaciones del Peru. Division de Identificacion, Av. Aramburu No. 550, Lima 34, Lima. The applicant must first request a fingerprint chart (ficha de canje internacional) and provide one photo. Processing time is normally three days. There is a small fee."

No mention of this, on the US embassy Peru site:

"Police Certificates

Applicants must provide three police certificates:

CERTIFICADO DE LA POLICIA NACIONAL (EX-PIP) (Address: Av. Aramburu, Lima)

CERTIFICADO DE ANTECEDENTES PENALES DEL PODER JUDICIAL (Address: Av. Abancay Poder Judicial, Lima)

CERTIFICADO DE ANTECEDENTES JUDICIALES (a nivel nacional) (Address: INPE, Jr. Carabaya 456, Lima)"

However, you may have a better source. Can you advise?

Check with NVC whether they'd accept it anyway. You never know...

For example, in Brazil, federal police certificates are only good for 90 days, but the consulate accepts them for a year. State police certificates are good for 30 days, but the consulate says that they're good for a year.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

My husband scanned and emailed the document to me today after he received it, and in the bottom right-hand corner it lists the date and time the certificate was issued as well as the "Caduca" date, which translates to "Invalid", and it is exaclty 3 months from today.

So I assume the certificate is invalid in 3 months....and I know we won't have our interview before then.

In all my research -- and I do A LOT of research -- I have never read anything about the police certificate expiring in any certain amount of time.

Ignorance on my part...additional hassle on my husband's. Lesson learned.

Mew...I only saw your post just after I finished mine. I dearly hope that information is true for my situation. I'll call the NVC and inquire.

This whole thing is such nightmare! Thanks for the insight William and Mew. Greatly appreciated.

That is the local Government expiry date.

Perhaps it will fly with the USG, as is. Check first.

I'll definitely check with NVC before I get totally stressed. My husband is SO sweet and patient with me....he just said "Well, if I have to do it again, at least I know what to expect!"

Maybe we'll get our stinkin' I-129F approved before I lose my mind completely :P
