Very well said... My fiance told me the same and to keep busy instead of waiting and whining. It's better if we're motivated to be productive while waiting instead of counting the months. Keep busy at work, go out with friends, or family and enjoy the time. I guess it's all about balance and I admit the frustration would outweigh it.

Very well said! Now that my interview date is near and knowing that I can leave any time after that makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. When I left for the US before, I didn't feel this way 'coz I know that it's only temporary but it's a different story this time. :(

Good advice!!

I was only apart from my fiance for 2 months during the K1 process but we didn't know how long it would be so I spent the time visiting people and visiting places in Scotland. I contacted family I hadn't seen since I was little (I have a large extended family) and went visiting! I also spent as much time as I could with my 2 year old nephew. :) It made the time whizz past and I have some great memories.

Sure beats checking the USCIS website for updates everyday! :)

Great advice!

Exactly! But its not like we're not going to see them for life, we still can, especially the technology that we have today. Moving out from home is just a part of growing up, to take a leap in a new chapter of your life and to have a family you can call your own.

Yes, we should spend quality time with our family and friends with or without any immigration stuffs. Cos every moment is precious and valuable.

My fiance is a little bit hurt with what I'm feeling too. It's a daily battle! It doesn't stop.

As the US citizen, here's the way I think of it.

When she gets here, I'm getting everything I want in life. I'll finally be with her.

But for her it's different. Part of it is the same; she's getting everything she wants in life. She'll finally be with me. But there's also the part where she is giving up everything she's ever known in life. She is leaving everybody and everything she's ever known; just to be with me.

Thinking of it like that helps me keep it in perspective. It's really amazing to me.

It was so nice to log on to visa journey and see a post like this.

Initially, when my husband and I thought about doing this, one of the first thoughts in my mind was the sacrifice he would be making to come be with me. To leave everything he has ever known behind just to be with me. I asked him several times if he really wanted to do this and he was certain. I felt so many emotions from this among them honor, happiness, and sadness. I kept telling him to spend as much time with his family because he wouldn't know when he would see them again after the move to the US. Sadly for a while he didn't want to tell some of his friends and family members he was leaving (he is the type of guy who doesn't like to get emotional let alone have anyone see him that way). I encouraged him everyday to spend time with his friends. In fact, we didn't talk much the last few weeks before he left his country because he was spending so much time with them. His mother ended up telling the rest of the family he was leaving and he got surprised with a couple going away parties.

This OP has given us such a wonderful blessing with this post. We have to be empathetic with our significant others and the sacrifice they are making to come here. Especially if they are leaving a good job and stability to come to a country where at times they have to start at the bottom in their careers and socioeconomic status. They don't have many friends and they will be lucky to have family here. All they have is you and hopefully your supportive family.

I guess some good advice to the Americans waiting for their SO's to come over would be to encourage them to spend as much time with their friends and families, take in all the sites in their country, and to make sure they do all their favorite things before leaving. Also, discuss as a couple ways to make the transition easier and possibly setting up activities for beneficiary to get into so they are not totally bored.
