I still can't believe women aren't required to register for the draft. Why we put up with this injustice is a mystery to me. Why feminists aren't up in arms (literally) is also a mystery.

Also, women are suffraging all over this country. We've gotta put a stop to it. End womens suffrage! End it now!

Women like the "good parts" of feminism, like "equal pay". "Equal work", not so much.

In every part of my career and every job I have held, I've had the same pay as a man...apart from the MILITARY. I got paid more than someone of equal rank and AFSC but at a different base because I was Army Support supporting the rapid deployment units...So I got paid more than some guy on a regular AF base. I also handled a weapon better than most AF personnel, could survive out in the field and be up and out on a plane somewhere within 2 hours of the call all because they assigned me to an Army SF unit- so i got all their training and standards of qualifying for everything...so i actually got paid more per month than my supervisor sargeant because of the enhanced pay allowances.

:P

edit-but I really hated all the Army ####### I had to do.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Just curious how you know this. Do you compare salaries with your colleagues?

Sure, why not. Higher risk, higher reward.

Please explain, I don't see how one has anything to do with the other - the draft and private sector employment, that is.

Well, to the best of my knowledge there is a standard pay based on rank ( or in the AF there was). I knew how much a certain rank made, in fact anyone can find out. Google military pay rates. I knew I got imminent danger pay, Army Support allowance and some other stuff - and there are those that are the same rank ( or higher) that do not get those enhancements.

edit-back then the imminent danger pay was really measley - I want to say like $100 a month? Not sure-but totally not enough. The Army suppport enhancement I got was more ( around $200?) a month...can't remember now.

Oh, I see. I didn't realize your entire career has been with the military.

No it wasn't-but after that I was in a position that was pay graded ( standard pay grade , if that makes sense). Kind of like rank ( but not). You get hired in at a certain paygrade. I'm pretty sure I was hired in the same paygrade as anyone else would have been with my quals regardless of gender. It was a Federal job. Hope that clears up the confusion.

So it would have been impossible for them to pay you a lower wage as a women, really. When these things aren't published, an employer can really do whatever they want and no one would know. It might not even be intentional, but subconscious.

Yes. I did however find I had to work much harder, do much better and spend longer ' proving myself' than some of those [men] I worked with. Monetarily, though I did get paid more than someone assigned to a non deployable squadron.

Sorry, I misunderstood the question.

Yet you still had your own latrine, right?

What's that got to do with it? I'll get suckered in and answer anyway. You were in the Army. I am assuming you spent sometime in the field ( I mean really in the field)....everyone had their own latrine.

but if you were being serious and asking about normal undeployed day to day stuff- Our building had one latrine room....I was very careful about my ' timing' with visits.

edit- actually i tell a lie...i forgot that towards the end of my tour at Ft Lewis, our building got completely renovated and 2 brand new washrooms were built!! :D

PWND.

I was in the AF too. I also spent a little time playing with the Army and sure, I did use my own latrine on occasion. My point with the military and gender bias is even in the military - which is supposed to be fair to everyone - there is discrimination based on gender. If you're accomplishing the same mission, why do you need a separate bathroom? Why didn't they buzz your hair at basic? Why are you allowed to wear earrings?

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF FEMALE AIRMEN MADE BTZ?

I know it's not often you get field showers erected by the Army, but when you had the luxury (or AF support!) of hot water, did they make the women wait till all the men were done?
