Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Sorry, no. There is no 'lover partner' visas

You must be legally married in order to come over as a 'partner'

Are we talking about same sex marriage or partnership? US doesn't recognize same sex partnerships even if the union is legal in that home country

What about California and other states where same sex marriages are legal now?

Have they just simply not followed up immigration-wise with the new laws they've created?

That's a big shame and a huge disadvantage for gay couples, IMO.

I have a friend who has a close friend who is gay and married a US Consul. He supposedly has an immigration visa that allows him entry only to the 3 states in the USA who recognize same sex marriages. It took him barely 3 months to obtain it but obviously it all went through diplomatic channels.

I don't even know how true that story is. I trust my friend and she heard it directly from him. But I can't really confirm it. Just repeating what I've heard.

Federal law (ie immigration) trumps state law (same sex marriage), so until federal law recognised same sex marriage, there won;t be any immkigration based on being a same sex couple. Gosha.Bee: your friend is joking with you; not just because of the above, but also because there is no visa which only allows entry to 3 states- it is all or nothing.

Still no "partners" visa. No 'unmarried partners visa' or 'married partners visa'

Sorry, no 'partners visa'

You may look into a work visa or a student visa but those are non-immigrant visas. If skills are particulary in demand a dual intent visa may be issued if a company sponors the immigrant

any Unmarried Partners Rule in immigration Law?

Not unless the immigrant intends to get married within 90 days of entering the US (as per the K-1 visa).
