I am pretty sure I understand the process, but I could be wrong (it has happened once...I think) and just for putting my mind at ease I want to make sure.

I got my NOA1 today by email/text. I am looking ahead to what comes next if there are no RFE's.

1. Wait for NOA2

2. When NOA2 received

3. send letter to fiance on intent to marry

4. fill out and send I 134 form to fiance

5. Send copy of NOA 2 to fiance

I know my fiance will have to do the medical exam and interview. However, is this really what is left (aside from the wait)? I see in the flow chart process the NVC gets a copy of the packet. What does the NVC do with it? Does anything additional need to be filled out for the NVC? I seen in another recently posted topic that a person was told to call the NVC to get a case number after the NOA 2. What is this case number for? IF the USCIS is done with the case now does the NVC case number trump the USCIS case number IE Will I ever need the USCIS case number again?

The NVC part of this is where I get lost and any information at all concerning what happens during this step would be greatly appreciated.

i'm pretty new to this as well. i just got my noa2 today. yippy! however...

i'm pretty confused as to what to do next. from my understanding, i've pretty much done my part. at least until after we get married.

and what do you mean by #3 on your list? didn't you already supply your letter of intent to marry in your i-129f packet?

Congrats on NOA2

In the steps posted here on VJ it says to send your fiance another letter of intent to marry. It says this Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).

But yes, I don't really see anything on here about NVC or anything that needs to be done with them (during the K-1). I don't know what the case number you get from them is used for.

Looks good. Make sure to send supporting evidence/documents with your I-134. There will be more paperwork for your fiance to do before the interview, but it doesn't require your signature.

I'm not sure what they do with the cases at NVC, but they are usually not there for too long. You can call or email to get the new case number once they have received the file. NVC can also tell you when they sent your file to the embassy. Here is a link with tips about calling NVC and DOS. You are not required to call/email NVC, but many people like to do it in order to track their file more closely. Personally, I emailed them 9 days after my NOA2 email and they gave me my new case number and told me they had sent my case to the embassy. 3 days after that, I got a letter from the NVC with the new case number again.

If there is no RFE then:

1. wait for noa2

2. after receiving noa2 your case is sent to nvc where it will be assigned a case number and be sent of to the appropriate consulate

3. with the new case number you can track your case at the consulate and check for an interview date

4. send new letter of intent with new date to fiance, copy of noa2 and i134 (also if you are not attending interview send a complete copy of the original i129f petition)

In my opinion, if you are attending the interview just bring the above documents with you.

5. await packet from consulate (if your's has a packet 3 and 4 the beneficiary (non us citizen) will have to fill out the forms and send it back and then await packet 4).

5. From there, I believe the only thing left is the medical and the interview and that information will come in the packets.

as to the USCIS case number, you will need this to initially track your package at nvc and after the new case number is assigned there, it will not be needed.

Good luck!

What do you mean by packet 3 and 4? it seems that you state my fiance could get packet 3 and 4 at separate times or together. Maybe I misread your email but if I didnt what determines if a person gets 1 at a time or separate?

What are these packets?

Thanks

From what I have seen most consulates send out a packet 3 to the fiance (non usc) and he/she will have to fill out the forms included in this packet and send it back to the address they ask. After receiving this packet, the consulate then sends out a packet 4. I am not sure what is in these packets as the Consulate in the Dominican Republic only sends out one packet. Maybe someone from the country of your fiance can answer that question better than I can for you. I wouldn't want to give you wrong info! :D
