Moving Van?

Hi all, I've looked around at one way moving van rentals(for a self move) and U-Haul looks to be the only company that does cross-border one-way rentals. Has anyone else tried anyone else? The smallest thing U-Haul has is a 10' truck and my fiancee really only has about a van's worth of items and three pieces of furniture.

thanks!

Are you set on driving it yourself?

My husband (then fiance) used "U-Pack" to get all his stuff here.

Basically they drop off a container, you pack it up, and they come get it and deliver it to you.

For us it was MUCH cheaper than driving, but he was going from BC to Boston.

A couple of other VJers have used them, they're great!

I hated UHAUL'S customer service. They didn't have our truck till 5 pm at night, we had planned to pack and leave by lunch. They let thr truck go that am for a local move when they knew it was booked, bad customer service.

Just my two cents worth.... I got quotes from A TON of moving companies. I have a 2 bedroom condo full of furniture. The lowest quote I got from a moving company was $2,200.00 US. Keeping in mind, if I rented a UHAUL and packed it all myself and drove it to Florida (24 hours---arrrggghhh) with the truck rental and gas it would have cost me approx $1800.00 US. Extra $400.... no packing, no moving heavy furniture, door to door..... I'll take it !!! :hehe:

Moving companies in Canada charge you by pound, 90% of them have a 1,000 pound minimum. Most charge between $1-$1.50 a pound.

I did get a quote from U-PACK and it came back at $1600.00 US. Again, maybe I'm really lazy, but for $600.00 bucks and I don't have to lift a thing, I'm still going with the movers :)

Uhaul was around $500. this was for the smallest truck and for 4 days and about 1600KM. I think it's a 600 mile drive. She has about 22 boxes of stuff and a dresser a desk and a china cabinet. Again, the truck is more space than we need, but if I can't find a cargo van then that will have to do.

I would look at U-Pack

http://www.upack.com/moving-quotes/quote.asp?nlnk=hvimg

You can get a quote but then you'll note they do say if you use less space then that provided or require more it is like -/+ $60 per foot or something like that.

Have a look.
