My fiance did something very stupid. She withdrew VN dong from our account and cannot find any place to exchange it to US dollars. She needs $ for her medical and the $350 visa fee. Instead of me sending her money using Western Union, she wants to find a place in Ho Chi Minh that can exchange VN Dong into $. Do you guys know any places in Ho Chi Minh City where you can change Dong to $??

actually gold/jewelry store might be best as hnhitJ suggested above, as that's their business and they're used to exchanging money.

if she's really desperate pm me, my uncle owns a hotel on bui thi xuan and they can do it. (jewelry store will generally give better exchange rates)

I believe as of today no jewelry stores can buy or sell u.s dollars. You must go to the bank to do it.

In the past few weeks the government has cracked down on blackmarket currency exchange.. it is an attempt to keep the exchanging at the banks...

Crackdown or not you can still exchange it on the black market. They are just a little less blatantly obvious about it now.

Still able to a teacher just did it this afternoon because she needed to send money back to the philippines. The government has been trying to stop the black market for years, it wants to control everything and get their take. The black market will usually give more for dollars than banks will, however when going from VND to USD it is slightly lower than the banks, but you dont have to explain why you need it exchanged like you do at the banks
