Last summer I entered the US with J-1 visa and I will return my home Japan in two months. I just recalled that when I visited Canada for a short trip(3days), at the airport, they took my I-94 out from my passport but I didn't get a new one when I re-entered the US.

Later on I learned that if the trip is within 30days, you don't need to give I-94 to them.

Anyway, according to some website, if I have to get a new I-94, I have to file I-102 which will cost me $320.

I don't want to pay this much because it's not that I lost it but that they made a mistake.

I have a copy of the original I-94, so will it work instead or must I really pay $320 to return home??

What would happen if I just go to the airport without I-94??

If you're still in the US, make your way to the nearest international airport or CBP deferred inspection facility (cbp.gov to find one) and ask for a new I-94. You may have to pay the $6 or $8 the form costs. They should be able to look you up in the system, see when you came back to US from Canada and get you the new I-94.
