Yes Charles, I have not only read the bible, I have studied it although not in hebrew and not in the detail that would make me a biblical scholar; let alone one of note. I have not and do not dismiss the bible, so why you are making that claim I have no idea, another of your dubious conclusions that you have come to without any basis in fact. However, I quite firmly believe that it is entirely written by and inspired by human thought there is nothing divine to be gleaned from its pages. As to why I do not believe in god, that has zero to do with what is or isn't to be found within the pages of the bible and is entirely a result of my current understanding of physics and mathematics.

what makes you think this is about you, unless you're admitting to being a liberal.

I have never denied being liberal but by the same token in some ways I am very conservative as well. I definitely am not a Liberal and even more definitely not a Conservative.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Okay, who here HASN'T danced the Macarena at someone's wedding or other event?

I haven't.blink.gif

Atlas shrugged and The Fountainhead were decent books. The movie is geared toward Libertarian and true Conservative thinking for sure. The Socialists could care less so why should they be marketed to? I am sure most know that Christian Conservatives are actually a minority of all Conservatives.

Compared to great books by great authors. Good books by good authors. Then we start after those two the decent book by decent authors. Then trail the mediocre books by mediocre authors and last in line the crappy books by crappy authors.

Ok, time to chime in.

While no one claims that Atlas Shrugged is the greatest piece of literary work ever created, it is a teaching tool.

It accentuates the point that the only thing that can get in the way of progress; is government.

At the end of the day, everything in the business world that takes place is controlled by the government in one way or another. Whether it's a piece of paper you have to have on the wall in the employee break room, to the type of elevator/stairs you have to have a a building. The trees you have to mark and let them take samples from and decide whether you are allowed to tear them down or not, etc. It's all about the government.

The government can either help growth, or it can hinder it and that's the point that is made in Atlus Shrugged.

Look at the oil and gas prices today, those are a result of the government hindering the economy. Not allowing new drilling, not allowing new refinery permits, environmental regulations, the destruction of our national currency, etc... All of these things the result of a government that isn't willing to do what's necessary to allow a thriving economy.

A government that would rather put up high government military contracts, than paying attention to the cost of the nation's health care.

The "buck stops here" has only one place it can stop and that is the government.

That's the point that is made and so few seem to realize this outside of their scope of what they 'think' the government should or should not be doing. In other words, people only care about getting 'theirs' from someone else, than about what's good overall.

You may not like the story and may find it boring, but it has a very relative point. One that fits very well with what's happening on a national, state, and even local level when it comes to regulations, taxes, etc.

I'll finish on a note here to relate to the 'librul' crowd (which is also the point in the movie, hint...hint...):

Only government can prevent high speed rail from shaping the future of this nation's transportation needs. Not you, not I, only the government.

Heck yeah I'm seeing it.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Can you give an example of comparable quality in terms of literature that Atlas Shrugged is on par with?
