A while ago I posted a message about how my fiance' (now wife) lost her vaccination supplement form and how the doctor in Bogota' won't give her another one.

Anyways, a few people suggested I just go to a local civil surgeon to get the vaccines taken again.

So I call up a civil surgeon doctor's office, make an appointment, go to the appointment and the rude women at the reception desk tell me that my wife has to have the entire medical exam done and that they don't just do vaccines. (which they failed to tell me over the phone before I made the whole trip there but that's besides the point)

I told her she only needs to have the vaccinations done and have the doctor complete the I-693A form and they refused, saying I need an "offiical letter from US Immigration" stating that she does not need to have the medical done. I argued with her for about 10 minutes before she basically told me to leave because I was causing a scene and holding up the line.

Am I right or wrong here?

AAAAAaaghhhh!!! :ranting:

If your wife's K-1 medical exam was done less than one year from the date you are sending in your AOS application, a new medical exam is not necessary.

Only the Vaccination Supplement is necessary if the medical exam in your wife's home country was less than a year ago.

However, I have seen a lot of people say that some Civil Surgeons will not do just the vaccinations. They will only do the whole exam plus vaccinations. You could have called around to a few Civil Surgeons in your area and asked for a price, etc. before picking one to go to. The prices Civil Surgeons charge vary greatly. We paid $35.00 for the Civil Surgeon in Seattle to transfer the information from the Vaccination Worksheet (from my daughter's K-2 exam) onto the Vaccination Supplement. No additional vaccinations were required. There would have been an additional charge if my daughter's vaccinations had not been completed before applying for AOS.

Good luck.

I have my civil surgeon's appointment Thursday. When I called I asked how much it was for the I-693A and she said $187! I explained I didn't need the medical, just the supplement and she said it was $25.

I would call around some other civil surgeons in your area and make sure you agree a price before making the appointment.

Good luck!

John,

You were right.

You also

- failed to make clear about vaccinations only when you called to make they appointment, and

- failed to be prepared for the possibility by having USCIS documentation of what was needed when you went to the appointment.

This does not in any way diminish their responsibility for the misunderstanding, it does add your own responsibility into the mix.

Yodrak, yes you are right. I should have been more prepared.

As for having USCIS documentation, the only thing I can think of is bringing the I-485 instructions where it states in the K-1 Fiance' Visa section that "if the medical for a K-1 visa was done within the last year then only the supplement is needed."

Is there any other documentation that you know of?

Thanks,

John

John,

There might be something in the How Do I FAQ pages of the USCIS web site that gives a better statement of the issue. You might want to search there.

John,

Providing nothing with regard to vaccinations increases the odds of getting an RFE for it. The clerical person who opens the submission and checks it for completeness may be under the impression that something is required, either the DS-3025 or the I-693A.

Yodrak

Thanks, Yodrak.

One more thing....

My wife was never given the DS-3025. Do we need to send this in for the AOS?

Thanks again, Yodrak. We're getting the I693A taken care of this Friday. Do we still need the DS-3025? I hope not because Soraya was never given it!

John

Hi John,

You can call up the panel physician's office where she got it done and request that they mail or fax a copy of the DS-3025 to you. That's what I did when I realized I didn't have one (it was in that brown envelope that gets handed to immigration when you arrive).

When I got the I-693A done, they made a copy of the DS-3025 and enclosed it in the envelope with the I-693A. I dunno if that's common or even important to USCIS, but that's what they did. Oh, and make sure you get a copy of the I-693A for your records.

As far as I know, that printout from USCIS about K1s not needing another medical should be sufficient. I would discuss all that with the next civil surgeon you call. No worries, alot of us here had to fight that fight about the medical.

You can also do a search on VJ for members from your city who have done AOS and ask them what surgeon they went to. More often than not, they got a good price from someone who understood what they needed.

Best of luck to ya!
