I think my husband must be a rare breed because there is hardly anything he misses from England, save family, a few friends and good beer. :P I'm certain he'd do it all over again.

I started to think if I would do it again, I am not sure if I would myself, and I am the USC. I'll be getting more information up here in a day or so. So please...check back and stick with this as it will be made.

I'd love to participate and/or watch. I'm the USC and a serial LDR dater (I've had boyfriends from Sweden and an American living in England for school, plus various ones in the States) and I think the hardest thing for me will be having my husband in my RL for more than a month. (we're currently in the NVC stage). I tend to get set in my ways, and having another person around will take some getting used to. I haven't particularly been bothered about the long distance of it, because for.. 16 years that's been my normal reality.

I'm sure I'll get over it, but I'm sure there will be times when I want to send him back to Canada. :P

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.

Hello,

My name is Michael and I have roamed the visa journey site for some time during the process of the K1 visa I was part of. As a filmmaker I came to the idea of documenting this great journey and the struggle it is. I am here now wondering how many of the members on this forum would enjoy watching a documentary about the struggle for that thing we call "Love". I have been throwing some ideas around to my production crew and I feel it is a subject worth exploring. I feel it is a subject I want to put in a good light; we all know, this is all done "Against All Odds", and is worth it in the end.

Immigration law, border controls, and processes regarding visas would all be investigated and expressed through the film. Interviews of couples explaining their stories would be the most part, their successes and failures.

I have had my share of this journey and plenty of experience in the heart ache. I really would like to bring back the meaning of love.

So without too much explanation, how many would love to watch something such as this? Ideas, thoughts...?

I would love to get a discussion going with this.

I would definately love to see a movie about this sounds like a terrific idea.

Michael

I think if you want to focus on 'Against All Odds', you should focus on the waiver couples, or those stuck in AP for an indefinite amt of time. Otherwise, let's really objectively look at it: one falls in love, gets engaged, files the K-1, and 6-12 months later, boom, they're together. I don't really see the 'against all odds' aspect of that, when compared to the couples I previously mentioned, or oh, say military couples where one is deployed in a war zone.

I'm not saying the wait is a piece of cake, mind you...but I do think that couples in the process tend to over dramatize the distance and wait. In relation to a topic as serious as marriage, and a life-long partnership, may a visa journey delay be the worst thing the couple ever faces!

I think I'm thinking about this too much, but here's a thought: why not make part of the focus about international gay couples? They currently have no path to visa/citizenship in the US. Speaking as a person who has a very dear friend actually involved in one right now, it breaks my heart to know that as of right now, there's nothing they can do, short of my friend moving there, which is not the desired path that either one of them want to take. But they are willing to do it, ultimately with the end goal that one day, they will be able to live here. Now THAT'S against all odds!

I love everyone's input and just wanted to jump on here and give a slight update. Had our first pre-production meeting and everything thing seems to be moving nicely. I promise more details soon. I am working on a detailed proposal and plan to show everyone. Thank you all for being supportive and keep up the good fight!

The topic is more than a year old and OP hasn't logged on since.

Besides that, Denmark has a webpage that is very similar to what OP described. Immigrations is VERY tough when it comes to bringing someone to Denmark, and often, the Danish citizen moves to Sweden to get residency there, bring the foreign relative there and after a year or so, they start the long process of immigration to Denmark. The webpage is in Danish but when translating it, it's called "love beyond boarders".

Great subject matter, I watch any good documentary and this is a great idea.

I would say to make it a great documentary would take years of following a handful of interesting stories.
