confused with "case status" on uscis.gov

Hi guys,

I'm checking my case status on uscis website, shows that my case is on "initial review".

however, it also says "During this step, USCIS initiates the background checks of the applicant/petitioner and identifies issues that may need to be addressed either during an interview or by asking the applicant/petitioner to submit additional information or documentation."

my question is: How many times does USCIS do the background checks through this entire process?

First time, when the petitioners submit the I-129F application within the USA.

Second time, when the beneficiaries submit the K1 visa application in their own countries.

Third time, when the beneficiaries submit the I-485 application.

I assume there are forth, fifth, .... when the beneficiaries switch to 10 years GC, and apply for citizenship?

Thanks

XH

Not to sound rude but why does it matter? If you're not a criminal, and don't plan on committing crimes it's irrelevant. If you have done, or plan on doing these things then... well... guess you'll get caught.

As Vanessa said why worry. You need to update your timeline as well. It is standard script on USCIS for AOS and initial review. I dont know that they do checks on the 129f but maybe they do and the K1 is done in the beneficiaries country as in police report. Then AOS yes the checks are done but not to worry we all go through it.

Thanks Barbara J.

I always update my timeline whenever I have anything new to update. However, I didn't have any further notice since I submitted my application. And I just received the Biometrics appointments last night. I DID updated with the new info.

So much confusion between curiosity and worry.

I was wondering the same thing myself and came to the same conclusion as was eluded to above. It looks like its standard USCIS boiler plate that would cover many different types of petitions or applications. I think just because it says they are doing these checks they necessarily are. I have read in other posts that there are a lot of redundant processes so who knows, it's your money at work.

Good luck

Btw, your I-129F smoked through VSC!

You're correct. Every time an immigrant applies for an immigration benefit they are screened to see if they are inadmissible, which includes a criminal background check. An immigrant must be admissible when they enter the US, and they must remain admissible the entire time they are here, right up until they become a US citizen. If they do anything in the meantime that makes them inadmissible then they could be deported.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Correct, in others words they want to make sure that you are following the law in between each time they do a background check on you!

Seems like a burden as it slows down the processing of the forms but they want to make sure you are behaving accordingly and are not doing something wrong!
