I'm not sure about that. He promises to 'take iraqi oil' and distribute the spoils among the people by pouring money into infrastructure projects (something Obama promised but failed to deliver on due to his unwillingness to 'take iraqi oil'). There is a sizable segment of the Democratic base that doesn't give a damn about international law but is domestic-bleeding-heart and his position would resonate with them.

Actually I can see the electorate loving the idea of us just using our military and taking over oilfields and pumping them dry and using the proceeds for our own. I personally can't envision us doing that without huge repercussions but maybe that is just me.

Sure. But why venture so far when there's plenty of oil (and other resource goodies) to be had just north of the border. I'm sure Canadians wouldn't mind if The Donald just went there and took it. I really like the healthy realism that permeates his policy proposals.
