You're so good at maths, prove it.

Compare A) the amount of money that was spent shoring up the banks, and B) the UK's national debt.

Well why don't you prove it was due to socialist scroungers ?

It is somewhat ironic that anyone in the US should point at another countries national debt and feel all superior about it

At least the UK got free health care and pensions and a literate work force out of it

Unlike some other countries who got the debt with none of the benefits

The fact is that the UK had a much higher percentage of the economy centered on the City of London and banking etc

Shoring those up after the US originated crash cost a bigger percentage than it did in the US

Ps I have made great money in the last few weeks from UK stocks and the rising currency there

(against the USD)

TRY FOURTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS DEBT !!! in this land of capitalism

The point is that US debt would be much lower if they had imvested in their people instead of tax breaks for the rich

When you make an outlandish statement, it's your responsibility to back it up with facts.

It is somewhat ironic that anyone in the US should point at another countries national debt and feel all superior about it

At least the UK got free health care and pensions and a literate work force out of it

The US and UK are both in the doghouse, as far as the debt goes. Nothing to feel superior or inferior about.

The fact is that the UK had a much higher percentage of the economy centered on the City of London and banking etc

Shoring those up after the US originated crash cost a bigger percentage than it did in the US

Now that just sounds like the usual "blame the banks" or "blame America" claptrap.

The UK has no-one to blame for this but themselves.

Ps I have made great money in the last few weeks from UK stocks and the rising currency there (against the USD)

What rising currency? GBP has been around 1.60-1.65 for months.

TRY FOURTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS DEBT !!! in this land of capitalism

I'm aware of it. We're talking about the UK, old chap. Pay attention.

If you are saying that unenlightened capitalism USA style is beter than enlightened capitalism UK style then you need to explain why they both have debts

..and why the Brits at least get something for it whereas the Americans just get the debt and not much else

I do agree with you on this point. At least the UK got free healthcare and education out of it. The US got Iraq and Afghanistan, yay.

But regardless of what the money was spent on and how we got here, both countries are broke.

The US can't afford the military empire and the UK can't afford the welfare state.

Market value of 400,000 dead Muslims - not much

Number of those able to fly a Boeing 767 before they were destroyed - none

We need to cut the Roman Empire stuff and get a fear free healthy educated population instead

It can be done - its only a short while since the arkansas zipper had a surplus !

This country is only a skip away from being able to beat em all but this disinvestment in people is not the way to go

We need reasonable vacations, reasonable work security and adequate free -ish health care and education ----

Then we would be Germany plus and Germany is BOOMING !!!!! I mean BOOMING !

ps I have been heavily invested in the GERMANY ETF (EWG) as you would expect

We had a lot of debt then too.

At the same time we were giving fighter jets way to Israel and Egypt

This country is heavily under - taxed and that is the root of the problem

I feel almost embarrassed at my low tax rate - and my estate doesn't pay ANY tax if I die !

In the UK they pay 40% on every penny over 325k !!!! and that exemption has just been increased

The US is the cheapest place to die - not the most comfortable as they embalm people here for some reason. Open coffins etc. yuk. Strange people.

Hey, not to change the subject but how is your son doing? That was quite an interesting story about his bad habits and poor attitude. Have you heard from him in the last couple months?

India, gun buyback and steamroll.
