If you are from Quebec, it's the 1 pager not the laminated pocket-size version. It will have to be translated as Quebec does not provide English birth certificates.

If you are interviewing in Montreal it does not need to be translated. My husband's certificate was in French and when I called the NVC they said as long as the birth certificate was in English or in the language of the country where the interview is taking place, it does not need to be translated. We had no problem with it not being translated at the interview.

I hadn't read anything about needing the long form birth certificate until I was in Montreal the day before my interview. Needless to say I panicked... I ordered my long form using Ontario's online submission and had someone back home ready to fedex it to me as soon as it arrived. I did not get it before my interview. I just explained to the lady interviewing me that I had just read birth certificate and figured that meant my little credit card sized birth certificate - not the certified copy of birth registration that they wanted. She said don't worry about it and approved me anyways.

I suggest having the long form just to be safe :)

If you're not already, apply online! I did and received my long birth certificate within a couple of weeks, very quick!
