Hello Everyone,

In a week I will be traveling to the US, alone... I am not at all nervous coz i am already used to flying... what concerns me most is the following:

1) I have an 8 hour layover at Narita airport... any suggestions what to do? I do not have plan to leave the airport although I know I can, and I actually have friends who lives nearby... but I just do not want to bother them...

2) How is Hawaii as POE? I will appreciate first hand detailed experience.

Thanks!!!

check out this link from the narita airport website. http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/service/index.html Not a whole lot to do in the airport and always a good idea to bring a book or two or maybe a laptop with some movies to watch (they rent dvd players in the airport so maybe they have movies also) I don't know how long it takes to get to the city from the airport but 8 hours may not be enough time to really do more than have lunch.

Narita Airport if pretty small compared to US Airports.

They take US dollar and Yen at most fast food places, I don't think they take pesos.

For a 8 hour layover, I get about 2 beers (free on most international flights, except US carries) and stuff them in your carry on. Once you get in the airport in Japan, I would eat a little drink a your beer and sleep about 6 hours, best way to pass time in an airport or airplane.

Wake up and go to Hawaii for POE, I would think it's a piece of cake in Hawaii. In Hawaii you basically land on the beach, the airport is very very close and most of the airport is open since the weather is perfect there.

If your final destination is Hawaii, it's too bad you don't get the whole 24 hour flight to America, but Hawaii would be on my top 2 places to live in the USA....

Thanks for the tip! Hawaii is not my final destination, but i will be meeting my fiancee there... I will land around 10am, my fiancee 2pm, so I will arrive first, but a girl friend of mine who is based in Hawaii will pick me up... We will stay in Hawaii for 8 days (we will also have our beach wedding there), then we will fly to Philadelphia from Honolulu, PA is final destination.

If you are flying business class, you could stay, eat, and sleep in your airline lodge.

Sounds like a freaking blast and great place to get married. You will love Hawaii, best place in the world in my opinion. Little on the expensive side but the view and scenery more than makes up for it, plus the natives there tend to be very friendly people........

You should also make a trip to Waipahu, after you land in Honolulu, there is a big Filipino market and Jolibee and Max. Also might be your last chance to get fresh Filipino food, coz I don't think malunugay, bitter melon, and mangoes grow in PA. You might not want to leave after your vacation is done.

My POE was Hawaii and I don't have any problems with the immigrations officers at all. There were only at least 5 of us who are first time immigrants. The lady officer who took care of my papers was very friendly, she even accompanied me in getting my luggage in the carousel.Lots of Filipinos around the airport too that I asked for directions. :D :D

Have a Safe trip!

You can get into some of those exclusive airline lounges for a fee (day pass available from some airlines, I don't believe you have to be flying with an airline to utilize them). It might be worthwhile for such a long layover. All of them at NRT are likely to have showers, free snacks, free beverages (including alcohol if you want it). They're all likely to have a lot of comfy seating. Some might have nap rooms. Some might have more than just snacks - such as full service buffets. At least one of ANA's lounges has a noodle bar.

http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/service/list/svc_76.html

List of lounges.

You can go to each airline lounge website from there, some of them offer day passes. Figure out which one is in the right terminal and has what you want.

Even more information here, including photos of some of the lounges:

Hmm, found this about radiation.
