Hello all,

As we all know this site is so helpful in getting things done. From all the forms to helping get into the USA with our loved one. What about trying to find other couples that have gone through what we have here and trying to find each other in specific area's. My wife is from Colombia and we are here in East Tennessee. I have tried to see if there is a way to possibly search for people that live in our general area that maybe she could have a connection. Specifically maybe someone from Colombia as well or spanish speaking persons. Does anyone know if there is a way to find other people from specific countries who may live in specific areas of the US?

I have gone through the same thought process... Obviously the area I live in is not going to have a lot in the way of people in similar circumstances but I would be happy with just a few :) We did have an event at a local park here a few years back where people from other countries were invited to wear something from their countries and talk about their culture. A few form Colombia showed up (three) but the bulk were from western Europe - lots of bagpipes, Irish dancing, etc.. I also remember a few from China, Israel, and other parts of the middle east...

Actually I took a photo:

Anyway.. this is the only thing local I have seen... Nothing online that I have found.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Here's a couple of options to help you and your wife. Going to church is a great place to meet people and to find other Spanish speaking women, e.g. speak with the pastor or the pastor's wife about your situation. Another option is encouraging your wife to enroll in a ESOL program at the local Community College...this is usually free or very inexpensive. I'm sure everything will work out.

Another option would be to have her visit the regional forums. There are a few that are related to Colombia and they are all in Spanish. I seem to remember someone from your neck of the woods but for all I know it might have been you.

the forums are:

In my opinion the folks that post there are all very helpful, have lots of information to share and do so readily.

Even for those of us from countries in close proximity to the US, trying to connect with others that may be going through the same adjustments is difficult. I have had some luck in browsing the Regional forum for folks in my area. Best of luck in making some connections :-)
