So peejay whats your point posting this story?

Seems most ppl on this forum who has waited their time out of country and away from their loved ones to gain entry legally are against keeping illegals in the country.

Should there be sympathy for this guy? Why is he over the law and why is law of land not applicable to him, he was drunk when was caught by police.

He was driving illegally without insurance, why in the world then I am paying insurance on my car for idiots like him to come and hit my car?

What would had happen if he would had hit some other car and killed occupants of the other car?

I like it! We should encourage our welfare bums to emigrate to Europe where the benefits are much more generous.

I am confused as to why he was held for 17 months.. He was in on a 24 hour DUI and they found out he was here illegally.. Shouldn't they have shipped him out soon after and then entertained any pleas?

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Nope he would be handed over the Federal authorities for the illegal presence and he would be in detention from then on.

Depending on exactly wht were the charges against him, they can hold him for various period of time.

In that case send the whole family back....they will be togeather.

Most likely when they lost their home and children had to go to counseling that was also aid by taxpayers.

Let the courts sort it out. Trial by message board is rather lame.

Doesn't EWI come with a ten year wait-out ban? Why are other Mexicans being made to wait out their bans in Mexico and while he is authorized to work?

There is nothing to sort out its clean violation of laws.

1.Illegally in country

2. No Driving Lic

3. No Insurance

4. Driving with DWI

5. working illegally

what else you need

Courts work on my (tax payers money + the legal counsel costs tax payers)

on one hand we dont have money to fund education and basic things and we would be wasting money on casess like this.

The answer is the same as why we put pot smokers in jail, they get three hots and a cot at taxpayer expense while they contemplate the lint hair in their navels for a couple years. The answer is the Prison Industrial Complex. Follow the money, tougher sentencing, 3 strikes your out, and of course the get tough on immigration diatribes by people who don't get the cost factor of this mess.

Who is really being "punished" in that situation? You guessed it the American Taxpayer.

There is 2 US citizen kids and a wife ..didn't catch her status but assume US Citizen, so putting him in detention for 17 months at $85 bucks a day its money down the proverbial Rat Hole.

17 months x 30 days = 510 days @ $85 that is $43,350 to Corrections Corporation of America out of taxpayer money.

Then you start to add in any additional public assistance if the loss of his income and support to his wife and kids pushed the family into Public Assistance mode.

So if we let him work and support his family he pays, if we incarcerate him or deport him WE PAY.

let me see:

you crossed the border illegally: crime

you got a drunk driving arrest while in the country illegally: crime.

You're lucky if they just deport your sorry butt.

GTFO.

Exactly right. It's amazing what they will allow to happen before actually sending these people home.

I have no sympathy for anyone who goes to any country illegally. When they get caught, they deserve everything that comes their way.

The second they stepped foot in this country they broke the law... they're criminals. Sure, the family suffers and that is not good, but they shouldn't have broken the law. Now they have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

Then as per your solution we should let every illegal resident stay and just let them work…..lol

Isn't that what Obama was trying to push through last year?

Sure, reward those who break the law just because they were able to stay under the radar for a long period of time. Is that really the message the US wants to put out to the world? Come here, hide for 20 years and we will make you a LPR, or even worse, a citizen?

Lucky I can never be President or I would have them all sent home immediately. Enter a country illegally and you have no rights as far as I'm concerned, regardless of how long you were able to hide for.

Try and sneak in to North Korea illegally... see what happens then. Oh wait, we'll send Clinton over there to get you... hmm.

At least they owned theirs.

The children's mother is an American. Are you saying the American children of an American mother should not be able to benefit from their home country?

If you guys are frustrated about this guy being in the US illegally and driving in the US think again, there was a couple in our old apartment building that had their son killed by a drunk illegal Mexican guy that had approximately 12 previous DUI conviction. Talking about Homeland Security not doing their job.

The question still hunt me to this day, why an illegal immigrant with 12 DUI was still in the US and not be shipped from the very first DUI until he had to kill a child.
