i've always been amused by this.

Channel 4 (i think it was) in Minneapolis has their mobile studio out at the state fair every year, and they have people using the peddle power to keep it operating. It's an attraction there that they allow people attending the fair to do/try out... It's pretty cool.

That could be something new... instead of the chain gang, it's the peddle-power gang... I like this idea!
