Hi,

I'm a former Peace Corps volunteer and I'm working on a K-1 visa for my Ukrainian fiancee. Since I was in the Peace Corps (and made $5 per day), and now I'm a freelance journalist in Ukraine, my income is next to nothing. I'm also 25, so I'm certainly not rich. That doesn't look too good when filing an I-134.

Fortunately, my parents (specifically my dad) have agreed to file the I-134 on my behalf. This seems to be ok, since nothing I read in any of the million forms says that the PETITIONER MUST be the one to file the I-134, but then I saw something on this web site that says that the petitioner MUST file the I-134 and others can only be CO-SPONSORS.

Anyone have any experience with this? Anyone know if I'm right or wrong? Anyone have someone else file an I-134 on their behalf? The Kiev Embassy web site even says the I-134 is helpful, but not required (although financial stability evidence IS required).

Gotta love this government confusion...

Thanks,

Matt

It sounds like you definitely need a co-sponsor.

You fill out one I-134 and your Father fills out another.

And both of you should send the supporting documents as well as proof of citizenship.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.
