I think it was doomed from the start. I guess a lot of people don't drink champagne.

sounds like an elitist thing. i'd rather have beer.

I suggest asking what champagne you drink you celebrate political wins or when jesus wins. Then it can go back to P&R.

Not with Korbel she's not!

ok I didn't see this yesterday. maybe more people will post if Korbel is allowed?!

I have a question. If you have a party...let's say a party with 50 people. How much do you spend on booze? Do you serve stuff that's $1000 bottle, $500 bottle, $200 bottle, $100 bottle, or something cheap? Or do you put out the expensive stuff in the beginning and bring out the cheap stuff when people are too drunk to notice what it is?

That's usually what I do. Start with the nice stuff and move to crappier stuff later. Some guests will bring crappy wine/champagne too.

Also when I have 50 people over, I don't go overboard with super-expensive drinks. $100 champagne, maybe, but no vintagey stuff - that's for small gatherings. :)

The reason I've asked the question is because I've thrown and worked at a lot of parties that serve a lot of booze. Some start with something like Korbel and go all night. A few have started with something really expensive and stayed with it all night. Most that start with something like Dom or Cristal, go to Vueve Cliquot, and then end the night with some cheap something once everyone is wasted.

I've seen the same thing when it comes to buying wines by the case. They put out the good stuff until people are drunk. Then they send out stuff that's cheaper.

When I have 50 people over I hide so I don't have to talk to all of them

Lisa, you, me...we need to throw a party together one day.

Usually because you run out of the good stuff at some point :)
