Question - Once K-1 VIsa issued - how long until it must be used?

I had a question after my fiancé receives his visa how long can he stay in his country before using the visa because I plan on going to Haiti for a little while and plan on returning in January.

The visa is only good for 6 months from the date on it.

He must ENTER the United States BEFORE the expiration date on the visa, which will be 6 months from issuance.

At the time of entry a K-1 visa is CANCELLED (it is a one time visa) and replaced by the I-94. The I-94 will have an expiration date of 90 days. In order to adjust status from the K-1 visa you MUST get married before the expiration date of the I-94.

You may file to adjust status ANY time after being married provided you were married within the 90 day period.

Don't wait at the last minute to let your fiancé come here to the USA. Please plan for a possible plane delay and other health issues that may arise. If a passenger has a high fever when boarding the plane and then subsequently found out at another foreign country during plane change, a passenger may not be allowed to board the next plane and will be admitted to a hospital on that foreign country until recovery.
