returning the ring - what a novel concept, LOL

I know - it's as dumb as returning his house ! Anyone who acts in a moral manner in these circumstances is anti- capitalist in their instincts and therefore un-American

Unfortunately, womanhood has not moved on to the next stage. At the moment the thinking is - if he wants to keep the kids then take em - if he doesn't then leave em.

Using more economic and reality based criteria, he should always be left with the kids - he can have all the problems while the woman becomes enormously more attractive to the next man and has bags of cash and his house and his ring

By all means take the cat

Come on gals you are missing a trick here and need to notch it up a gear. You should be fighting about who gets stuck with the kids not who gains the pleasure of noisy teenagers with all their problems and expense

Luckily my ex's mother has just died and left my ex some money. My son can now ask her for his next car/bus/computer/business seed money/detox.

It gets better and better.

Of course - it's Britain's #1 newspaper in terms of circulation and readership? The Times if the #1 broadsheet. Both newspapers making similar points about pre-nuptials for William and Paul McCartney.

Kind of undermines complaints about the American media.

Stop being rational. Instead of focusing on a country of people who may or may not know their own laws, let's bash Americans for not knowing theirs.

How very dare you!

Good

I will try and make that 'sometimes' into 'always'

The world does not revolve around your likes and dislikes and posts are not made in an effort to seek your approval so stop Princessing it up

So unless you have a thought that would actually allow you to make a post of your own, stop pecking and poking at other people's - especially if the best you can do is - 'Your post annoys me'

Some actual 'content' of your own would be nice rather than just throwing rotten tomatoes from the gallery

The whole point of your thread is about your annoyances about a separate country not knowing your birth country's divorce laws.

...and I'm 'princessing it up'???

hahah ok

Journalists have a responsibility to check what they are asserting - that is what I am saying.

At no time have I said that ordinary Americans are expected to know other country's laws

So you either made that up, or you didn't read the post, or you read it but didn't comprehend it - which one is it ?

my understanding of "the ring" is if the guy breaks off the engagement, she keeps the ring. if she breaks off the engagement, she returns the ring.

It depends on the ring too I suppose. For instance, what to do about heirlooms?

If you are ever given this ring, I wouldn't give it back to the original owner if I were you....

What bits I know of US law is that every State is different in contract law

I have neveer heard of a conditional gift but I am quite prepared to believe there are States that have such a construction

After all, that is only one step from the slave owning idea

...as in 'you are mine and if not then I want my money back' my monetary investment in you...

Historically, you are not too far off.....

Not sure if I'd want to jump in a river of fire, either.

So, it's a toss-up between an ex-fiancé and a river of fire. Which one to choose? Hmmm ...........

Hell hath no fury greater than a woman that has to give anything back. I learned that being spurned is no problema if they can cart off great wodges of cash at the same time.

I have no axe to grind coz as I only marry thick ones who can be outwitted easily, or clever ones who have great jobs and don't need my wad. Nothing worse than a quite intelligent one who is stoney broke

Every 7 year old boy should be introduced to these concepts (glass hopper)- far more important than reading poetry or dressmaking or whatever they teach em at school nowadays

Now here is an education. I thought a richard wad was a person with an inadequately stocked wallet - as in chump change. Seems it has been extended.

I particularly like it when this guy is on telly - and as he is called Richard, I wonder if his friends call him #######..

If so his name would be... say it !
