Vaccines for Medical

My fiancé has been vaccinated at health clinics and during "vaccination drives" but has lost his vaccination card. I understand that he will be required to get vaccinated in Juarez if he can't prove vaccination. Is it expensive to have done during the medical? Should we have him get all of these vaccines before going to Juarez? Are there some vaccines that really aren't necessary? Is there any way to prove that he has already been vaccinated?

I found this list of necessary vaccines at:

http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html

The following age-appropriate vaccinations are required for adjustment of status applicants, based on the above criteria or per INA Section 212 (8 U.S.C. 1182)(a)(1):

* Diphtheria

* Tetanus

* Pertussis

* Polio

* Measles

* Mumps

* Rubella

* Rotavirus

* Haemophilus influenzae type b

* Hepatitis A

* Hepatitis B

* Meningococcal

* Varicella

* Pneumococcal

* Influenza

The instructions in this document supersede all previous vaccination-related "Technical Instructions," "Updates to the Technical Instructions," and memoranda or letters to civil surgeons. These instructions are to be followed for vaccination requirements for all persons applying for adjustment of status for permanent U.S. residence.

Wowzers. That's a lot!

Thank you for your comments.

I realize that all vaccines might not be age appropriate for him.

Thank you Tonetzky! I did a search and read a ton of other discussions but I didn't see yours. It was very helpful.

the payment you will pay for your medical exam already includes your payments for the vaccines

Is that true? There is no additional fee for vaccines! That would be awesome. I thought that I read somewhere else that there was an additional charge.

You only have to have the vaccinations that are appropriate for your age, provided you don't have a medical contraindication. This will probably mean the MMR, TDaP (tetanus, diptheria and pertussis), and meningitis (memingococcal).

I'm still wondering if we should try to get these before he goes to Juarez. He has free health care and may be able to get vaccinated for free before he goes.

With all the changes that have happened lately, I am not sure if they changed the medical any or not. If they have not changed it, they will not give someone that goes for a K-1 visa any vaccines. They give you a blank DS 3025. They would not look at my husband's vaccination record, transcribe them to the DS 3025, or give him any vaccines he may have needed. He asked several times, several people, and even offered to pay them extra. No go. They shove the K-1s through there without touching the vaccination part. It is silly to give a blank form to people, but they don't care. It is not their problem, and they want you to worry about that part when you get to the US.

Get the age appropriate ones for free there. Bring the vaccination record with you to the US. Have a civil surgeon transcribe them onto the I-693 that you will send in with your AOS later.

Interesting, I just asked about this problem in the AOS forum. So i brought my vaccination record to the US and I guess that this blank DS-3025 form is no longer of any use since the civil surgeon is going to transcribe my vaccine history directly from my record right?

As far as i know the civil surgeon needs to complete only part 2 and 5 of the form I-693 or is there any other supplemental form for this?

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Yes, the I-693 is what you need. Get the vaccines there, and then have them transcribed here in the US. Fill out part 1, and take the form with you to the CS. They will fill out part 2 and 5. Find a CS that will agree to just transcribe your vaccines that way. A lot want to rip you off and charge you for another whole medical, which you do not need. Should not cost you more than $50. You can print off the instructions for the I-693 to show them it says K-1 visas do not need the medical, parts 1, 2, and 5 only. The CS will seal the I-693 in an envelope for you to send with your AOS.

Good Luck!
