It does actually state on the USCIS website that the BC translation needs to be original. That being said, I don't think it's a big deal if you send a copy. We included the BC and translation with the I-130 (even though not necessary) and with the I-485. But we only had one original. We had his sister translate and mail it to us, so I only had one copy. Don't stress over this part. :) If I had to do it again, I'd just send copies of the translation. good luck!

Well, if you found a section on USCIS site that states that you Must submit the original translation, then you should submit the original translation. I am going by the instructions and what I could find myself - but did not see anything that stated that the original has to be sent. However, if you have seen this, on USCIS instructions or website, then it seems to be a pretty clear case - right?

I personally submitted an excerpt from the Finnish population registry which was already in English, so I did not have to send a translation of BC at all.

Is there a specific reason you do not want to send the original translation?

well I never know when I might need the original for something else, but I was wondering if I need to send the original,I thought I need 3 sets of it,thus my question do I really need 3 original translations...but I figured it out for myself now..

You can send original for I-485 at least.

Then send send photocopy for other.

It's your choice to send BC for all three (I485, I-130, I765).

We (and my friends also) send one BC. And we didn't have any problem.

Sending three is not better nor worse than one, it dose not make any diffrence.

FYI

From I130 Instruction

BC of intending immigrant is required if he/she is child or parent (or brother/sister) of US citizen.

Because BC is the evidence of those relationship.

Spouse case (by marriage) BC is not evidence of relationship. so it's not required.

I-751 in preparation
