Hi,

So when I filled in november I didn't add any proof of my relationship, I just put our son birth certificate it seemed like good enough proof to me,

but what would you add, we just opened a joint bank account but I never used it yet,

we have a costco card, a zoo membership, our car insurance... and obviously our son ( who is american, born in france)

should I add pictures?

any advice welcomed!

You need to actively use that joint bank account, otherwise it's useless.

What about joint tax returns, a lease agreement, affidavits from friends?

We are in exactly the same position. Like you, we also recently established a joint account but we have never used it, simply because we have had no reason to do so. We also do not have any joint tax returns or anything along those lines. We do, however, have plenty of airline tickets that we'll bring, along with all the other "usual" stuff.

no, they don't need to be notarized. Your friends should write about their relationship with you as a couple: for how long you've been knowing each other, how did you guys meet and such.

yes, you can use the email confirmation of your itineraries.

Yes, plain tickets can be e-tickets. We sent in some e-tickets to prove that my husband visited me several times in Finland before I moved to NYC, and that we had done a couple of international trips together.

In your case, I don't know how much additional proof they will need in addition to your son - having a child together is usually a pretty solid way of showing a bona fide marriage. They do usually want to see co-mingling of your everyday lives - meaning joint bank accounts and credit cards, shared insurance (are you in his insurance? your son?), shared phone plan.. We sent in a few affidavits from different people, both of our fathers wrote an affidavit and then two friends who were present at our city hall wedding ceremony. We wrote the letters for then. They basically just said that they have been aware of our relationship since xxxx and met me for the first time in month/year and have since met us both together on several occasions, blablabla.

Joint bank accounts are very strong evidences.

If you have one then use it for your bills, rent etc.

If your husbands/wife are the ones that are most active on their own acounts paying bills etc, then add yourself to their account.

A bank statement show a marriage. A gazillion purchases from the grocery store, bills paid, online transactions etc.

If you both have access to the money then its a good proof.

I had 4. One from our neighbor across the hallway, one from a guy who was working in our building management office, one from our landlord and another one signed by my in-laws.

I use his credit card most of the time, but I also pay a lot of things with my saving so for us the money is really not a strong point

A little side note: your husband cannot claim you as a dependent. You are his wife, not his grandmother or child.

Unfortunately its a strong point for them.

If you are added to his credit card then thats good.

AHHHHHHH I am freaking out!!!!!!!! I always have one his credit card on me but I don't see myself saying I use his and sign his name... :s

I don't understand why having a child is just not enough!!!! If you survive a crazy newborn as a couple you are good to go!!!!
